My ABS and Brake light goes on alot. Also sometimes my gages will go up and down for no reason. That is what they call the GM shuffel. It happens to alot of GM vehicles.
I never had a problem with loosing power or the tranny stuck in second gear. Sounds electrical, if no one can help here, get that thing to a garage before your hurt.
Your alternator is out. Those are classic symptoms of alternating going out. The alternator recharges your electrical system and when it goes out a list of strange things go on inside the dash, and you won't be able to go very far on just a battery. Most likely a speed sensor is going bad (most cars and truck do not use mechanical speedometer cables anymore) most sensors are located near the differential in rwd cars or near the drive shaft on the transmission. Best bet is to get a Haynes manual for your car to help locate the speed sensor. Remove it and take it to the auto parts store so you can visually compare it to the replacement. Install the new speed sensor and it should restore your speedometer and odometer.
I have the 2000 Cadillac Catera Sport and I had the same problem. ABS, TC light and no speedometer and odo. I thought it was an electrical problem however I solved the problem by refurbishing the ABS Module. If you bring to the dealer it will cost you $3,000. You can have your ABS module rebuilt try modulemaster.com they do it for about $200 I believe. I got mine fixed because a friend of mine removed them and soldered some loose connectors together. All it cost me was a case of beer! It worked for my car just a suggestion for you guys. My ABS Module was a Bosch 5.3. Hope this helps!
