Are you sure you the adjustment to it is correct the button in the end of the switch has to be fully depressed to deactivate the circuit

  • David LaPach Jul 28, 2013

yes I adjusted it...when it is not in place you can depress it and the lights go out so I adjusted it to close all the way but when installed it does not shut lights off

Car brake lights won t turn off when car is shut down 1996 Honda Odyssey

It should be your brake light switch. There is a little plate welded to the arm of the pedal that has a hole with a rubber stopper. The rubber stopper is most likely missing, or damaged. You should be able to take a flashlight and see the plate and the switch. If the hole is plugged up, you will need the brake light switch, if not, replace the plug.

Car brake lights won t turn off when car is shut down Honda accord lx 1992

Sounds like just a simple break light switch ajustment, the switch works off the break peddle arm, its not letting the plunger on the switch to release all the way out so break lights go off insted they stay on. If thats not the case than a new switch is in order.

Rear brakes light don't turn off when the car is off

Attached to the brake pedal, on the back side, is a switch, called a brake light switch. Pull on the lever and see if the lights go out. If they do, replace the switch.

Relay

My 91 accord had the same problem. There is an electric lock out solenoid under the shift console cover. Remove a couple screws on shifter cover and you will see it. I just bent the tab that contacts the shifter instead of replacing it. Done deal.
