The latch is in the center of the hood ,if grill is off you should be able to reach up and behind the latch pull on the cable towards driver side ,its easier if you apply pressure down on the hood as you do this, did you have some one push down on the hood when you tried pulling broken cable, might work if the pressure is relieved.

Hood release doesn't work

Have you tried banging on the hood near the cowl or windshield, while pulling the hood latch, to see if it pops open?

If the cable is stretched or broken, you may have to get to the latch from underneath, and pry the latch with a small screwdriver-the cable will attach to a lever that pulls towards the driver's side to open the latch. Sometimes you may need to take off the grill (if able to with the hood closed), and then you can get to the latch with your hand.

yes either pull excess wire with vise grips or go in front grill area center and use a screw driver to pry latch open, find where cable attaches to latch then push w/driver to open latch.

The inside latch for the hood is there another way of opening it?

if cable broke under hood u will have to use a pliers to pull on cable or a screw driver to pry latch release==unbolt lower valance and reach up behind grill and using pliers grab and pull on latch cable or use screwdriver and pry latch at cable connection --if pull latch broke inside remove kick panel and expose cable using a vise grip or pliers pull cable to open

My ford explorer hood is stuck down the release does not work

law down on the ground pull yourself under the front bumper look up and locate the hood latch, use long rod or screwdriver and pry the latching lever to release hood, sometimes can be accesed thorough the grill with a flashlight. look for where the cable meets the latch....and if you cant even get to it at all (at all!) then you will have to locate the cable under the dash where it meets the firewall.... cut it to access the cable inside and pull to release. once cut obviously will need a new one.

Hood latch frozen in closed position

there should be a cable coming from the driver headlamp area and going acroos to the front center of the hood. where the latch is. spray penetrating oil on the latch at the front center of the hood.

here's a typical latch for a ford.

Broken hood release cable 1996 Ford F150 pickup

On each side of the latch there is an 8mm screw that can be removed through the front, between the hood and grill They are aprox 6" apart.

The latch itself has two locator pins that slide into the front suppoprt behind the grill.

After removing the two screws, gently pry the whole latch away from the support. The hood can be raised, taking the latch with it.

Access to the release lever is behind the latch. It is now exposed.
pull the tiny release lever toward the drivers side and latch will come loose. Good luck!

1986 Honda Accord: The hood will NOT open!!!

Use a flashlight and look in & up through the grille & you may be able to see where the sleeve of the cable runs to the latch. When you look at it, should allow you to figure out which way to pull or pry to get it to release hopefully.

Hood latch

There is no other way to release the hood other than either trying to reach the latch release from under the car or removing the grille.
