It seams that only one wheel spins. When i have one side of the truck on ice and the other side on dry pavement, the wheel on the ice spins and the truck do not move. the wheel on the dry pavement should be biting and move the truck and not let the other side spins.

Unless you have a limited slip differential(which means both wheels have power from the engine to them at the same time),only one wheel will spin, and it will be the wheel that can spin the easiest.throw some sand or salt on the ice to give that wheel some traction,and you're off

I hv 2005 buick lesabre limited. It's show traction off in dash so is gud to ride or not?

The traction sensor comes on when one of the front wheels spins faster than the other. If you push it on then the front wheels lock up to give traction to both front wheels equally so you can drive away from a situation where one wheel may be in sand or snow/ice and the other on dry pavement. Traction Off is the normal running mode.

easy fuses blown.
we dont know what 4wd options you have, so cant answer.
if part time 4wd ,do not use it on dry pavement.
its only for ice or offroad, read the operators guide yet?
my 99 is part time, its not AWD, sorry not. stay of dry pavement.
wet means ice, not water. water pavement , NO.
so forget that. and lets fix blinkers.

do hazards work.?

fuses and haz, forget 4wd.

2007 jeep liberty stuck in 4 wheel drive

did you drive to dirt and see if it unsticks?
try side of road , at dirt.
first off,
no 4wd system stated, which kind.? and WHAT MODE?>???????
and if using locked mode, 4wd it not for pavement, and will do damage using locked mode, or part time 4wd on dry pavement , no ice means dry. at the least its dangerous. using locked if you dont know what you are doing, use AWD.

why are you in 4wd, do tell?

Jeep Liberty 4 Wheel Drive won't engage

part time or awd ?
do no engage part time 4wd on dry pavement.!! only on ice or dirt.
do post what your tires are touching? dirt or pavement????????

if stuck in 4L , on dry pavement , pull over to side of road, dirt
then shift out. if no dirt anywhere? sand or gravel or grass.?
then jack up one wheel then deselect 4Low. back do 2WD
options for your car, (do post what you have)

2001 4 wheel dr stoped working the lite that shows ur in 4 wheel doesent even come on

no road surface stated.
try on dirt or ice.
Part time 4wd is not for dry pavement.

driving on dry pavement., causes wind up
or failure to engage
or failure to release.
its not AWD..

i never us my light, i test it offroad first.
for really works , if not , i fix it there.

My 4 wheel drive is grinding when trying to engage.

90 wrang . what is your hand touching, which shift lever.
manual stick or auto )( tranny, we cant guess that.
4wd ( given clutch and A/T not bad)
are you on ICE or dirt? or pavement.?
part time 4wd does not work on dry pavement (dry means no ice)

Will not go into 4x4 low.

its bad or using it wrong,
are you on dry pavement.? or ICE, or Dirt, surely we cant guess.????

if car has Part time 4WD, then dont drive on dry pavement.
dry means ice free.
AWD cars (an option on some) you can drive anywhere, any time.

Cannot engage the 4wd

are you on ice?
its part time 4wd right?
test it on dirt, work now? well that is what part time works on,
it does not work on dry pavement and if you do it wrecks it.
part time works only if one or or more wheel can slip.
off road, on grass, on ice, on snow
never on just water wet pavement or dry pavement. (cant slip)
if you fail to heed this ,it will windup, and BOOM

Hi,
Yes, this is normal while in four wheel drive on pavement.
I will try and explain why.
In four wheel drive the front and rear drive axles are linked together by a chain in the transfer case and gears in both axles. This is a direct link with very little play between the front and rear axles.
When cornering a rear wheel will spin faster, or slower depending on the direction of the turn. this causes a binding in the drive line because the drive line wants all the wheels to turn at the same speed. So the wheel "skipping" going in reverse, is the drive lines way of compensating for the different speed of the wheels turning.
Never should a four wheel drive be used on dry pavement. I could cause a break in one of the drive line components. On a slippery surface , snow, mud, gravel, grass, There is enough slippage in the surface to aloow the driveline to compensate for the different speeds of tire rotation.
So do not try at highway speeds on dry pavement.
Your four wheel drive system is working just fine.
