Rubbing/grinding noise I have a 98 Ford Ranger 4X4, there is a rubbing/grinding noise coming from driver side front, I know it's not the brakes. If the bearings are bad, would this cause the noise? Should I quit driving it until it is fixed?
Usually the strut bearing will make this noise upon turning a corner and hitting a rut or pot hole when turning. A wheel bearing will make a low pitched whinning sound constantly

Sounds like you have either ball joint issues, or problems with the CV joints. The other possibility is a problem in the transfer case causing the front axle to bind. You can physically look at the CV joint boots to see if they are torn open and many times you can grab onto the axle and give it a good tug to see if it will move..it should not.
Without hearing it i honestly couldnt say they could all be right and everything is worn out ,have you checked the brake pads for wear in case that is causing the noise like a worn brake disk (rotor) and as the pad wears down the metal on the pad backing is rubbing on the edge of the worn brake disk ?? take the wheel off and have a good look yourself
Hello i would check your wheel bearings or sometimes called bearing hub .Jack car up prop the car with axle stands now remove your tires and rotors once removed wiggle you bearing hub left to the right your bearing hub should have minimal play one side to the other is obvious the looser play hub will be your noise you have been experiencing.most people call this road noise.
It could be a number of things, but a common problem with this car is rusty pins in the front end. This is louder when turning. There was a bulletin issued about it.
Could be low on oil, trans doesnt have fluid, wheel bearings are gone, or could be something stuck under the vehicle and either the tires or the drive axle is rubbing against it.
If you have stock sized tires on it.. check the brakes.. also look for loose fender skirting near the wheel as a helper turns the wheel maxxed out to the right.. Lemmie know, Thanx
