1993 Jaguar xj6 won't start, battery drained of power. Went away over xmas and new years so have not used our 1993 Jaguar xj6 for more than 4 weeks (probably more like 6 weeks!) and battery hence lost all power after sitting idle for so long. Furthermore it seemed to start briefly when jumpstarted but then went dead as there was no fuel in the tank so went and bought £10 worth but still won't start! The radio and alarm has power and the lights come on and also lights on the dash board when we hook up the jumpstart the battery but engine still won't start. Now I live on a street filled with mechanics and even they all seem at a loss except they are now fully charging two batteries to thus simulatenously hook these in to jumpstart the car! Any suggestions? HELP?

Yes we thought perhaps it was the immobilizer initially but have unlocked and locked the car with the key several times but alas still with no luck!

It is turning over but just doesn't 'grip' but just keeps 'coughing' (sorry for the lack of proper terms here!)

Will try pushing the car though - may solve the problem since we had to push it back in place in the drive way when it didn't want to start in the first place!

    Cheers! ;-)

Just put this proposition forward to the mechanics helping and they said not to do that because it's an automatic car and so you can't put it into gear otherwise you will break the gear box he said. He believes it might be a problem with the pump that pumps the petrol to the engine instead?

Replace your relays on your firewall! Sounds awfully similar to a problem I had

Is the car immobilized? if so you may have to lock and unlock the car with the key and not the remote.

Is it turning over or just nothing, also starter motor may be jammed. put the car in gear with the hand brake off and push the car forward until you feel the engine turn over. You dont need the keys in the car!

This should free the starter off, sometimes they jam very tight and will not move at all, on these jags. they get rusty quickly if sat about. I had a XJ many years ago great motors.

Good luck.

My 94 jaguar xj6 battery drains even if the car is turned off what could be causing this

I have less than fond memories of tracing electrical troubles in a Jaguar (though much older than yours). Here's the basic process you need to follow:
1. Pull all the fuses. Does the battery drain overnight?
If yes, then a circuit that is not fuse protected is the problem. Start with starter/solenoid, etc. Disconnect each thing and test with meter.
2. If battery drain stops, then use meter to check current drain on each fuse. One will have more than a trickle.
3. Once you find which system is draining, you can narrow it down further by disconnecting each thing on that circuit.

Yeah, It's a pain, and may take days, but you can find it.

1993 jaguar shorted its electrical out, alternator belt was loose and wasnt charging at idle.

Please replace your relays on your firewall they tend to be the most of everyone's problem

My 1993 Jaguar XJ6 wont turn over..the lights on the dashboard wont come on but the radio works and all the lights in the car..someone help please.

I recommend you have your battery tested. The starter requires MUCH more power than the radio does. You could also see if the car starts with a jump start. Also, as a general rule, a battery is only good for 3-4 years so if it is older than that it wants to be replaced anyhow : )

Good luck!!!

I have a jaguar xj6 3.2 liter engine that hasnt been used for like 3 - 4 years. I just recently changed the battery and would not start it cranks but does not want to start. What do you think is wrong...

The fuel has definately gone bad. The new fuels they are refining do not stay as long as the old gasoline. You will need to drain the tank and refill with fresh fuel. Once you do that, remove the sparkplugs, remove the coil wire ( to prevent a fire ) and crank the engine for about 10 seconds. Replace the spark plugs and it should fire right off after that. Let me know if you need anything else.

I left the key on and the battery charging now my 1993 jaguar wont start

Leaving the key on will drain the battery, charge the battery up with the battery terminals disconected.

1993 jaguar xj6 once warms up will sputter at around 2000rpms

You probably need a new fuel pressure regulator.

My 95 xj6 would not start in cold weather. Towed to jaguar dealer and they diagnosed it as a battery problem. Changed battery started for three weeks. It is cold again motor turns over but does not start.

your suppression module is dead and need to changed. It blocks the alternator from charging the battery, so basically you are running on battery [email protected] for more

Battery drained dead in ocld weather

Could be both batteries went bad.
1) I would take battery back to where you bought it and have them test.
2) Check, or have someone check, that battery power is not being used when the key is off and the car is not being used in any way. There will be a slight trickle of power use, but nothing that would wear the battery down in less than 3-4 weeks.
