Elantra p0010 is most likely the filter for the oil control valve aka the variable valve timing solenoid. this gets dirty with dirty.old oil. This filter is the size of a thimble and is behind a 14 mm bolt on the engine. It is on the driver's side of the engine close to the front of the car than the thermostat. It is easy to take out the bolt and filter together and clean with brake cleaner but use safety glass and gloves and don't get brake cleaner on paint as it will dissolve the paint. It is strong stuff. This worked on my 2004 elantra and should work on 2001 elantra, 2002 elantra, 2003 elantra, 2004 elantra, 2005 elantra, and 2006 elantra. I believe the sonata has the solenoid and filter on the other side of the engine.

P0010 code

P0010 on a Hyundai means your camshaft positioning oil control valve solenoid is screwed up. Could be the wiring to that, as well. Check the wiring first, if any loose connectors, clean and reseat and see if code stays cleared. If not, the solenoid needs replacing. The VVT (variable valve timing) system on this engine has been troublesome, and Hyundais in general are troublesome. People only buy them because they're cheap and disposable. There are cases where a P0010 is indicated a faulty ECM...big bucks.

P0010 engin light

A code P0010 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty oil control valve (OCV)
  • Open or short in the VVT/VCT circuit
  • Open or short in the OCV / solenoid valve
  • Damaged computer (PCM)
Possible Solutions Some recommended troubleshooting and repair steps are:
  • Carefully inspect the Bank 1 VVT/VCT system circuit wiring and connectors, repair as required
  • With a warm engine, test the operation of the OCV, replace/repair as needed

I HAVE p0010 code Problem.CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR CIRCUIT

P0010 - "A" Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 1)

A P0010 code refers to the VVT (variable valve timing) or VCT (variable camshaft timing) components and the car's PCM (powertrain control module). That consists of an oil control valve (OCV), also called a solenoid valve and other components. Basically the check engine light and associated P0010 trouble code means that the voltage in the circuit has fallen below a set limit for a specific amount of time (varies by make/model/engine).

Symptoms may include:
* Check Engine Light illuminated (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)
* Rough running
* other symptoms may also be present

Causes: A code P0010 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* Faulty oil control valve (OCV)
* Open or short in the VVT/VCT circuit
* Open or short in the OCV / solenoid valve
* Damaged computer (PCM)

Possible Solutions: Some recommended troubleshooting and repair steps are:
* Carefully inspect the Bank 1 VVT/VCT system circuit wiring and connectors, repair as required
* With a warm engine, test the operation of the OCV, replace/repair as needed

Hope this helps to solve it (remember to rate this answer).
