As you said only it is showing the temperature in cluster but engineis normal, no overheating at engine, it means, the temperature sensor is sending wrong signal to control unit and it is showing the data which receivingfrom sensor, please replace "temperature sensor"your problem will solve after that, if any issue please let me know.thanks.
If you are refering to the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor,it is located on the right rear of the engine below the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve.
HINT: If your Deville is equipped with the analog instrument cluster and the temperature gauge is working, or if you have the digital instrument cluster and the driver information center (DIC) has been diplaying messages telling you that the engine is hot, the problem with your engine cooling fans is NOT the sensor.
if you are looking for the engine temp switch(sending unit,
it is located on the engine next to the large coolant hose (the hose
that is not attached to the pump) on the engine. Just a little above and
to the passenger side of the vehicle
This is on a 1990 E-150 4.9L did not know your year ? The coolent temperature sensor/switch (For Computer) is Top forward RH side of engine, under water outlet...Hope this was some help to you ??
The temperature sending unit should be located on the drivers side cylinder head between the number one and the number three spark plugs, that is if it is the original engine.
Hi, You'll need to get the trouble codes read. I'm guessing the code probably has something to do with your engine coolant temperature sensor or the engine coolant temperature sending unit.
You would only need to replace this if your temperature gauge is not working properly. Just because the thermostat was replaced does not mean the sensor must be too.
There were three different engines offered for that vehicle and there is a separate temp sending unit for the gauge than there is for the computer(PCM). The V6 4.0 SOHC ECT for the PCM and the sending unit for the gauge are both located side by side on top of the thermostat housing. The V6 4.0 EI engine ECT is located on the front of the engine, left of the throttle body, and the sending unit is located in the front of the engine, behind the alternator bracket. The V8 5.0 ECT is located in the front of the engine, below the middle of the ignition coils and the sending unit is in the same area, but toward the driver's side of the engine below the left ignition coil.
Ok, you have three sensors on this engine that work together to manage the temperature reading that are sent to the gauge. i recommend checking all three to be safe. i will list the sensors and, locations below.
1. Coolant temperature sensor- Under hood, driver side, upper engine area, above
transmission bell housing, mounted in driver side
end of intake manifold.
2. Engine Temperature sensor- Under hood, driver side, upper engine area, mounted
on rear cylinder head
3. Temperature switch.- Under hood, center, lower engine area, above oil
filter, rear of coolant temperature sensor, mounted
in engine block
