1992 Subaru Liberty wagon - cannot lock front passenger door.

I have a 1992 Subaru Liberty (Legacy) wagon. The lock on the front passenger door will not lock. The key will not turn fully in the lock and the internal rocker switch cannot be engaged in the lock position - it seems to get pushed back. I have removed the rocker switch and still cannot engage the lock. Is the problem the unit near the base of the door? This part seems to be resisting the locking mechanism. Seems difficult to get this part out of the door.
All other doors lock and unlock correctly with the central locking mechanism from the driver's door.
Thanks for reading.

Ok - I have now fixed the problem. The lock actuator was not responding at all. Picked up a second hand replacement from a Subaru wreckers and all is working fine now. Plus, I now know how doors and central locking work. Bonus!

Check the alignment with the door pin. Might be out of adjustment and will not let the door close all the way. That will cause the lock to not be operable. Good luck and have a great day.

Just bought a subaru legacy grand wagon and none of the central locking (passenger doors or boot) works. There is a vague click from behind the glove box somewhere, but that is all.

Entertain the possibility that feature was bad, killing the battery over and over, and a prior owner disabled it to save himself and all future owners a lot of jump start aggravation. Power locks seem to have a common problem of self activation on and off when the ignition is off. Now I do not think that my Subaru has this problem, but if and when it develops dead battery in the morning syndrome that is the first place I will look.

95 Subaru legacy wagon manual transmission fluid

The dipstick has a black plastic handle in the shape of ring of about 1 inch in diameter. It is located on the left side of the engine (looking from front) behind the spark plugs. Best visible from the passenger side fender location (start looking from the left part of the transmission , the black handle clearly stands out on the white metal).
