Have a 1998 Olds Bravada. AWD problem.

Have a 1998 Olds Bravada. Have a AWD problem no engaging. I tested the actutor motor and have a reading of 4.8 volts. wondering if that is a good reading or not, and was wondering if there are any relays or switches in connection with the actuatr motor, if so where are they located?

SOURCE: 02 olds bravada locked in awd

This is very common. It is the transfer case encoder motor. That controls the shifting of the transfer case. It needs to be replaced. Its not that hard to replace but the part is expensive. You will also need to replace the front drive shaft boot clamps, you have to cut the originals off when removing the front drive shaft. I've replaced many of these for myself and others. Good luck I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: AWD on 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada

possibly, but the most common problem is the engagement motor located on the rear of the transfer case. Motor looks like small wiper motor and can be replace fairly easily.

SOURCE: 1998 bravada

Do you have a 4WD Bravada? Or an AWD? If it is AWD, there is no shifting. It is in 4WD Drive all the time.

Do you have something on the dash that allows you to change from 2WD to 4WD HI/Lo? Is so, then check your fuses in the fuse box. You may just have a blown fuse.

SOURCE: How do u fix your AWD in a 1998 Oldsmobile

Do you have any lights on, on the dash? Check engine, Service Engine Soon? Any shift levers on this car for transfer case? Sounds like probably internal problem with vicous clutch.

Is there a switch for the awd on 98 olds bravada

There is no switch, If the light is on there is a problem with your system. The most common issue is someone installing mix-matched tire sizes or running with a low tire. This eats up the coupler in the transfer case.

1999 olds bravada smart trac four wheel dosent engage

Probably the transfer case encoder motor. Unplugging it at the wiring harness should make the "service awd or smart trac" light come on. This will tell you the awd controller module is probably OK. Common failure item to Bravada's. Try "thepartsladi" eBay store for lowest price motor, beware aftermarket!!! Also make sure transfer case fluid is "blue" GM Auto-Trak II only! If not bllue when checking change twice after driving for a week with blue fluid.
