I have a 1990 Nissan Pathfinder. 3.0 Manual Transmission with an intermittant starting glitch. Starter/solonoid and ignition switch have both been replaced with no effect. I cannot seem to find the clutch switch on the floor/firewall or on the clutch bracket itself nor have I been able to identify the clutch relay. Any advice on this problem or where to find a schematic of these locations would be appreciated...thx

The Clutch/Starter relay has a Blue Top and is located on the right inner fender near two other relays. It has quite large wires (12Ga.) and is often the culprit.

1996 pathfinder, ignition issue, starter , battery , ignition tested, will start 100 times, then just won't, then start right up! And keep starting. Last time had it towed home, started right up.Help!

If the Pathfinder is a manual trans. Your clutch safety switch needs to be adjusted. if it is automatic, then neutral safety switch is the problem. Try shifting from Park to Neutral position on the gear selector and try starting. Check for low voltage at the starter solenoid (small Black Wire with White stripe ) You have to unbolt the right motor mount and jack the engine up to remove the starter. test so that starter is last resort. Hit me up at [email protected] and I can tell you how to test the starter.

I have a 93 pathfinder SE 4X4 automatic transmission that had full power, new starter and battery. Sometimes it will start and sometimes not. By passed starter relay by adding push button start and it started 6-8 times then nothing. I finally figured out that it was the neutral safety or inhibitor switch on the 4 wheel drive shifter. Just an idea..good luck

Installed brand new starter, battery fully charged, and still wont crank. It starts when I kick start it. 1988 nissan pathfinder. What else could be the problem? Relay switch? Or ignition? Please help

Check the ignition switch, and the wiring to the starter solenoid. Get someone to turn the key to the crank (start) position and check for voltage at the starter solinoid. Check the starter relay and all fuses.

Ignition switch will not activate starter motor consistently. Sometimes no, sometimes with a second click of key. Cleaned ignition switch contacts and wire harness connector contacts. Could a relay be the...

Bad ignition switch and starter symptoms are similar. The engine will turn sometimes and will not turn some other times. If it is the switch you will not even here a clicking sound. If the starter is bad you might hear a clicking. If the distributor is bad than the engine will turn every time but it will not start running or will start but not run properly (misfire).

Changed the starter on 1990 pathfinder, may have crossed wires, which wire goes where on solinoid. Bratt

There should be wire from the solenoid to the starter, usually a black earth cable, one from solenoid to positive from battery, and one to the ignition(a signal wire) there really are only the two possible connections once you have the solenoid's earth connected to the starter. Good luck mate, hope that helps!

Replace starter

Your Starter is located on the bellhousing of the, or going into, transsmision (this is the part of the transmission that connects to the engine). The starter is mounted, either to the engine or bellhousing, by 2-3 bolts. You will have one RED cable (Positive) attached to the rear of the starter. This cable needs to be removed and it is a good idea to hang on to the hardware just incase the new one doesnt have any. You are not likely to find a black (Negitive/Ground) wire attached to the starter as it finds its ground through the Engine/Transmission, but if you do this is a redundent ground, remove it also. Remove the afformentioned 2-3 bolts that mount the starter, and remove the starter. Place the new starter in and place your mounting bolts back in. Reattache your wires and you are ready to start it!
