HYDRAULIC CLUTCH BLEEDING

1. Clean cap. Remove reservoir cap and diaphragm. Fill reservoir and keep full throughout
procedure. Attach hose to bleed screw on actuator and submerge other end in container of
hydraulic fluid. Depress pedal slowly and hold, loosen bleed screw to purge air. Tighten bleed
screw to 18 INCH lbs. (2 N.m). Repeat as necessary until air bubbles are no longer seen.

2. Fill reservoir. Install cap and diaphragm. Start engine. Push clutch pedal to floor. Wait 9
seconds. Try to shift transaxle into Reverse. If gears grind, bleed system again.

NOTE: Hydraulic system components, which are serviced as an assembly,
have been factory-bled and filled. Bleeding is only necessary if air has
been drawn into system due to low fluid level in reservoir.

CAUTION: DO NOT use mineral or paraffin base oil in clutch hydraulic
system, or damage to rubber parts in cylinders may occur.

posted this answer vast times.. and link 100.s

click boxes for car, then clutch chapter and read.
but does not cover bleeding, this is base line automech 101 knowledge. the book assumes you know 3 things.
1: constant loss of fluid and why.
2: air is system renders it dead.
3: how to bleed clutch and brakes (same) 5ways but same.

  1. gravity bled
  2. 2 man way.
  3. vacuum bleeding
  4. forward pressure bled at cap
  5. reverse bled at slave.
most times it takes 2 ways, in list, unless #5 is done.
air floats up hill is why and clutch lines are vertical. (hard to do)

Need help bleeding clutch

Clutch bleeding can be problematic and I have had to resort to removing the slave cylinder but leaving the hydraulic line connected and raising it as far as the flexible pipe will allow. above the master cylinder and bleeding it in mid-air.

Reverse bleeding can be very effective and with a long-travel large capacity cylinder the piston can be pumped out to the limit of its travel and then forced very quickly back in as far as it will go.

Anotther type of reverse bleeding I have been forced to employ a few times is connecting the clutch bleed screw to a nearby brake bleed screw with some very good fitting hose. Both bleeders are opened and the clutch is bled by pumping the brake pedal. An assistant adds fluid to the brake reservoir and removes it from the clutch reservoir.
Four or five vigorous pumps usually does the trick.

Good luck!

Why won't the cutch engage or disengage. Everything is brand new but still nothing.

I don't know what type of vehicle you have but I would check there specs for what fluid goes in the clutch system. Most systems use brake fluid. I would think gear lube or oil is way to thick.

The clutch goes all the way to the floor and wont g into gear checked the fluid iy is low or gone what do i do and what kind of fluid do i use

If the fluid is low, fill it and bleed the system. Once bled and operating check for leaks which would all be external if fluid loss was encountered. Use ordinary good quality brake fluid. The bleeding method is the same as for brakes and the bleeder nipple is on the clutch slave cylinder on the bell housing.

1998 sunfire, clutch all of a sudden goes in without applying any pressure and now ABS light on???

Sounds like a failure in the clutch hydraulic actuator system, and it shares a reservoir with the brake system. When the clutch actuator master or slave develops a leak, the brake fluid runs out too.
This is dangerous and a mechanic needs to get on it soon. Not owner fixable, and not something simple which can be fixed by pouring some fluid in somewhere.

I have a 1997 pontiac sunfire with a manual transmission. I can not get the car to go into gear and the clutch pedal has no pressure. I saw that fluid is leaking out at the spot where the gear shifter...

The clutch system is hydraulic just like your brakes are. You have a slave cylinder and a master cylinder. You must have a leak somewhere, and will have to see what part it is, or have it looked at. Once replaced, the system needs to be bled of air just like brakes do.

Clutch adjustment

Its either the clutch fluid is wrong or not at the correct levels or it has not been bled correctly.

Need to know what fluid to put in the clutch fluid res.

you can use dot 3 brake fluid from you local parts store, im using it in my 99 sunfire, but just ask them and they'll reommend there product.
As I see it the clutch and brakes work very similar to one another.

Clutch needs bled

clutch and brake fluid should be change every couple of years, Since the fluid does attract moisture, and degrade the efficiency of the brake and clutch action.
