Apparently the lit lamda warning light means there is a problem with the emissions system, indicating that the engine management system is no longer able to control the fuel mixture. It means you need to take your Volvo in for service.
It's the bulb failure warning light. It comes on when the brake pedal is pressed if there is a defective brake light bulb. Check your brake lights - either a burnt out bulb or a bad connection caused by corrosion in the socket.
Timing - engine is not sounding right or back firing. Head gasket - water and oil mixing, see inside water bottle. or open bottle. rev engine when cold, if starts spitting water out while cold like a fountain. Water pump - Water leaking from side of engine. or when car started and water bottle is open and no circulation is visible could be signs of water pump Remember - Block radiator lines can also cause over heating problems and lack of water circulation.
Mine is doing the same thing. I have taken it to the shop and the mechanic can't find anything wrong with it. When he resets the diagnostic, the car runs fine for a few days then it happens again. I'm thinking it is something due to the cold temps here in NW Iowa. It is obviously not a cold weather car!
1998 volvo s40 right hand drive: there is an orange triangle light with green in the center and an upside "y" in the center of the two. It is between the "up orange arrow" and "a an orange car with an X on it" the light comes and stays on. Dont know what it means. can you help. Thanks
My first thoughts are with the battery cables, or the alternator. You probably had the heater, wiper and maybe the lights on? That's a big load on the electrical system. Have the battery and charging system checked out! It's common on this model for the alternator brushes to wear out and the good thing is that they can be replaced separately of the alternator.
