Question about 1999 Audi A4

I have a 1999 Audi A4 2.8L - Last month it was stalling at low RPM after initial start idle kicked down. I put in fuel injector cleaner and it fixed the problem. Yesterday it returned and is shaking before it stalls. It stalls again after initial Idle kicks down, so when I stop at lights it will stall most of the time or at dead stops in traffic. If the car keeps moving it will not stall. Car has 170,000 miles mostly highway

    Yes it is a V6. Thanks for the info. I'll get a diagnostics on it. Other than that it runs great.

Crank shaft sensor or air mass meter, is this a v6? I had the 2,6 a4 same fault same miles funny enough. changed the air mass meter is was ok after that. thing is they have so many sensors, you need to get it on a diagnostic machine to be sure.

Your service displays have to be reset with the correct electronic equipment....When you chage the engine oil the computer management system will have to be told...thats the job of the scanner....go to a service centre and have them cancel it for you.
The over heating problem is nothing to do with that though.....Check to see if you have any leakage....open the pressure cap only when the engine is cold....best is first thing before start up in the morning....check to see if you need topping up....if you do, it'll mean you have a leakage....Check the entire radiator and hoses where they go from the rad into the engine and ventilation system for stains from the coolant....If you can't find any look at the thermostat....If you remove it, replace with anew unit, do not dis-guard it also check the pressure cap and if needs be replace....Good luck

I too have the same problem on my 2005 1.8t B6. I noticed a hole in the breather hose coming off the valve cover that runs to another port under the intake manifold. I have the hoses on order and should be here on Wednesday. I'll post again if that fixes my problem.

Rough idle after engine is warm


Dirty air filter, dirty throttle body...try 2 bottles of gas line fuel injector cleaner...has your car been parked for awhile? Heet gas additive will work on any low gas tank sludge that you may have. Hope this helps.

Can anybody tell me how to change fuel injectors on 1989 audi 200 quattro?


first relief fuel pressure before disconnecting fuel lines remove fuel pump fuse or relay start engine let it idle until stall out lack fuel fuel now fuel pressure is reliefed. you have to remove top upper air cleaner housing, you have to remove whole entire air cleaning system because the fuel lines with fuel injectors is under the air cleaner filament you have to remove entire fuel line with fuel injector in order to replace fuel injector.

Wont idle


you start up and as you let off the gas pedal then it goes way low in RPM? Then stall out,if it does this is vindictive of the Idle air control, you can take a chance and do 2 option you can relace the idle air control or use a throttle body cleaner,why would a cleaner work well to begine with the idle air control is pulse width control and blow by gases gums it up making it rate of keeping the iar control slow in response thus giving low ilde,then stall out, This is if it start and just wont idle, then there is its famous start up and 10 seconds later turns off,this one is different that is you ralarm not recognizing the key to fix this you ll have to reboot the memory disconnect the battery (roll down a window) put the terminal together and and allow 30 seconds then reattach the battery tighten down put key in ignition in the ACC wait 10 seconds then start up. now if the alarm is not the problem you may have a fuel pump problem this happens when the pressure it must supply to the injector are too low for proper injection,

CHANGE FUEL FILTER AND CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS.FILL GAS TANK UP AND PUT A BOTTLE OF FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER IN FUEL TANK.TRY GET CAR TO IDLE TRY FLUSH OUT THE INJECTORS.

My 99 Honda Accord keeps stalling after warmed up and relay for fuel pump starts clicking rapidly, what could cause this?


Low / uneven idle problem can cause by a lot of components.

Dirty air filter

Dirty injectors + o-rings

Vacuum leak at intake manifold and vacuum hose.

Bad Idle Air Control Motor (IAC)

Low compression (170 psi + is OK)

Start cleaning and repair these trouble spots and see is there any improvement.

For more advance DIY'er then you may try this.

Use a can of Berryman carburetor clean to locate the vacuum leak.

This is a 20-30 minutes job.

Vacuum leaks can occur in following locations.


Intake manifold AND/OR vacuum lines.


Intake manifold is not accessible unless the engine head if off.

You can still check the potential leak by spraying some Berryman near the intake manifold.

Listen for rpm increase after you introduce the Berryman (FUEL) at idle.


Do the same starting from the brake booster unit (the round unit) on the drive side fire all.

Carefully listen for increase of RPM right after to spray the Berryman to the potential vacuum spot.

Get a friend to HEAR the ROM increase or monitor for RPM on the tech.

DO NOT AIM the Berryman into any heat source.

Car idles low, stalls after start


Common issue at the shop (i'm a ford technician), here is what I do to correct it.
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls at stops and low erratic idle speed and rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

find the Idle air control valve on the side of the intake and then take off and clean or replace you could try taking a small ball peen hammer and tapping it lightly while it is idling let will genarly free them up

91 volvo 240 - keeps stalling out, shakes a lot when idling


for the cheapest TEMPORARY solution get some fuel injector cleaner and get on the gas fo about 5 mile at like 100 - 120 miles an hour thats what idid to mine last week hasnt wanted to die out since. good luck.
