Usually a sign the sensor in the latch has failed. The sensor is telling the body computer the door is still open.

check battery,alt, and wire conections

which lights work? headlights? tailamps? dash lights? radio lights? Interior lamps?
turn suignals? flashers? Brake lights?

I have a 1998 ford explorer and my head lights stay on after I turn off truck and kills my battery interior lights don"t come on when I open door just happened tonight?

On late model XJ's, fog lights operate on fuses #3 & #4 (in your interior fuse panel), which also control the drivers side head light plug....

Could be a door switch gone bad, but my gut feeling is that the module that controls the interior lights (which may be part of a body control computer on that car -- I'm not sure) went south. The lights are almost never controlled directly by the switches any more -- that's why they can stay on for a minute after you get in and shut the door, turn on when you pull the door handle, fade off instead of turning of abruptly, and all of the other neat tricks today's cars do. Some have a separate module to do these tricks and others incorporate it into a computer that runs all kinds of things (interior lights, wipers, 4WD control, etc.) I'd certainly check the door switches first -- they're cheaper. However, as I said, my gut is saying that it's that module.

replace the main head light switch.

Check for moisture under the interior carpeting.
I have see it cause this when the wiring gets wet on the connections from the door switches. Other wise you are going to have to get a meter and check all the wiring to each door and the lamp switch.

theres a little switch on the body of the car that turns tat interior light on and off yours could be faulty
