I have got a 54 plate Renault Trafic 2.0 16v Petrol with an LPG conversion. I have recently (jan 2010) had a problem with the throttle sticking wide open whilst going along. The only way to stop is to switch the engine off whilst going along but this gets a bit dangerous when the power steering etc doesnt work without the engine running. After stopping i can start again after a few minutes with no more problems. It has happened nearly every day now and its getting a bit boring so any advice would be great! Also, when this happens the ''Preheating warning light / water in the diesel filter or electronic fault warning light'' comes on (the one that looks like a heartbeat in a box and a coil). Just a thought...could this be due to the cold weather??

Hello, Gosh my 51 reg renault does exactly the same! Took it to a garage had the throttle body replaced with a genuine renault part but went again few months later - this time the car would not start - relays corroded. Had the throttle body replaced under warranty (Jan 08) but then it went again - this time told by renault that a Wiring loom needed replacing - £150 +VAT & labour. Last week went again - i'm beginning to think that this car will never be fixed. Renault wanted to charge £300 to fix but told them we had had all this work done previously and they came back and said it was a faulty connection. Tonight (05th Sept 08) as i type this my husband is waiting for the AA to tow him to renault as it has, yes you've guessed it happened again!!!!!!! This is rediculous, does no-one at renault know how to fix this??!!

SOURCE: A 'check gearbox' warning light has come on the
the bad news 4 u. this gearbox in your car is like made by mickey mouse.
1st before spending lots of money.
find a transmission place and ask them to recalibrate the gear box as you think its got program confused.
this will make gearbox people think you know about the gearbox, they then wont be able to this you and just do this plus charge for more.
if no joy ask them to check gearbox oil, if dirty its torn a clutch, expensive.
i know alot of these just need a reprogram, have had them done for nothing but other times about £40 it takes minutes to do, u get billed an hour.

You don't say if the car is misfiring, but that's what it sounds like to me, could be a possible ignition coil faulty are heads of the ignition coils Gray if so then probably yes, A way to diagnose the problem, unscrew all 4 bolts from the coils now start engine with the engine running slowly lift up the first coil if engine starts misfiring or stalls coil is ok, if not replace faulty coil check all coils in the same manner.
(You may have to lift up the engine cover to find the coils)
