There is a special tool which you need to press the ball joint out. Most national auto part chains have a free loan-a-tool. Autozone carries it, you will need to front about $125 to rent it, which will be refunded once you return the tool.

Creaking groan from front driver side tire

The creaking is coming from either the shock ,ball joint, or a-arm bushings. Have someone with you and one person pushing up and down, the other, safely feeling each component till the vibration can be felt. If it is in fact the ball-joint then as long as it is safe (not loose), then just add grease to it as needed and it should go away.

What is the easiest way to replace the front drivers side lower ball joint on a 1998 Nissan Altima?Or would it just be easier to replace the lower control arm?The ball joint is definetly done-for.

just need to get a ball joint splitter , pronged shaped device that you hammer between the ball joint and control arm ,after stripping down the assembly, little tip, when fitting new ball joint apply slight pressure from below when tightening the nut , this will stop the joint from just spinning , i usually use a scissor jack for this

My front passenger side wheel is pointed inward (like I was making a left turn) the driver side is pointed straight.

You most likely broke a tie rod. You should see two points where your ball joints fit in. Probably still attached. You will need a ball joint removal kit, new tie rods, sweat and tears to get the old ones off but very doable.

The right side front passenger lower control bolt is slipping how to fix the loose bolt on 1997 cherovlet calaiver

if its the bolt that attaches to the spindle thats the lower ball joint u will need to jack up and support vehicle remove the wheel you will need to support control arm with a jack and decompress spring and chain or secure for safety reasons so it doesnt shoot out and cause injury cut or drill out the 4 rivets that hold the ball joint in place [if it is a pressed one will need to buy or a lot of auto stores will let you borrow a ball joint press]replace with new done ---if the bolt is the one attached to the frame need to do same set up and remove old and replace but the bushings are what will slow u down a bit while replacing

It is the lower ball joint on the drivers side. The center of the actual ball joint has come out but i cant get the rest to come out!I rented a press kit from Autozone.Any advice would b great. Its a 93 Ford...

Hello, If the underside of the part has some large flat rivets on them, these will need to be chiseled or drilled out. Look at your new part and see how the joint fastens to the lower "A" frame. They usually has several bolts which draw and attach the new part through the bottom.

Call the autoparts where you rented the tool and see if there is a tool for removal. Sometimes the tool you have will have attachments to do both in and out.

How to repair a lower ball joint on the passenger side

Hi.

jshreader_9.jpgjshreader_8.jpg

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove tire and wheel assembly, then install modified outer seal protector No. J34754, or equivalent, Fig.3 .
3. Remove lower ball joint cotter pin and nut, then loosen ball joint from steering knuckle using tool No. J-29330, or equivalent.
4. Position a suitable pry bar between suspension support and lower control arm and separate lower ball joint from steering knuckle. On some models, it may be necessary to remove nut attaching link to stabilizer shaft.
5. Locate center of rivet body and mark with a center punch.
6. Using a 1/8 inch drill, drill pilot holes completely through rivets. Using a 1/2 inch drill, drill final holes through rivets to ensure fitting of new ball joint.
7. Remove ball joint from lower control arm.
8. Assemble new ball joint to lower control arm with bolts provided in service package, Fig.9 . Tighten bolts to specifications.
9. Insert ball joint stud into steering knuckle and tighten nut to specifications, then install cotter pin.
10. Install wheel and tire and check front wheel alignment.

I hope this helps you.

Thanks.
