Use 2 wheels, the other 4wd low ,for climbing at slow speeds: 4wd high, for driving on low traction roads, like mud or snow,at medium speeds: 4wd auto full time all wheel drive, for highway speeds on slippery surfaces, like rain or light snow.

2005 gmc sierra extended cab 4 wheel drive alarm going off for no reason don't no why

Sometimes they get stuck and will not come OUT of four wheel drive. Try resetting the 4 wheel drive button and drive forward and backward several times.

Imitsubishi shogun engaging 4 wheel drive

no year?
never drive, part time 4wd on pavement, unless said pavement
is ice or snow covered.
only AWD allows pavement (tires direct upon) driviing.
part time 4wd is for offroad , off pavement driving,
this is because 4wd has no center differential.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-wheel_drive

and with out such, winds up the drive line fast. and breaks it.

wiki states (no year stated by you)
Part-time four-wheel drive was standard on all models. to 1991
then came
ActivTrak 4WD
cept
4H (high-range full time four-wheel drive), 4HLc (high-range four-wheel drive with locked center differential) and 4LLc (low-range four-wheel drive with locked center differential
so do not use LOCKED on pavement. on active track. only 4H
the wiki states the Super-select is retained 2006 to present.
Super-Select 4WD II

read the glove box manual under 4wd

How do i know if my car is in all wheel drive

If your car is an "All Wheel Drive" or "AWD" model, it is always in all wheel drive, there is no choice to take it out of all wheel drive. But if it is a "Four Wheel Drive" There will be a lever on the floor, or a button on the dash that you have to activate to get into four wheel drive. Usually for the latter there will be a light next to the four wheel button.

So, if on the back of your car says "Equinox AWD" it is always in four wheel drive.

1993 4X4 BLASER 4WHEEL DRIVE

Your blazer is equipped with a shift on the fly four wheel drive. That means that at speeds less than fifteen miles per hour you can shift into or out of four wheel drive by simply pushing the four wheel high button. If you wish to shift into four wheel low. Stop, put the transmission into park or neutral, and push the four wheel low button. Same procedure for shifting back out. Never shift into or out of four wheel low while moving. And be careful in four wheel low. At full throttle your still barely moving, you don't want to blow your engine up!

First check your 4 wheel drive switch to make sure it works, for on an off settings. (Use a volt-ohm meter for this. On should show continuity in the readings (if digital then it should show zeros in the dial) Off should show no continuity or 1.0 in the dial.

1. Check your fuses.
2, IF OK, then check your FUSE LINKS.
3. IF OK, then check your 4 Wheel Drive relay in the fuse box.
4. IF OK, then check continuity of the wires harness to the 4 wheel drive switch for DC voltage.
