There is not a separate fuse. The tag light is powered off of the tail lights. If you have tail lights but no tag lights your problem is either bad tag light bulbs or the connections between the tail lights and the chassis ground at the tag light bulb sockets.
Check for that fuse in a fuse panel under the dash. That second wire from the old light is a ground wire, whereas the new light's socket is case grounded if there is no ground wire for the light. If the fuse for the tail lights is good, check if the tail lights lost a ground .
Some people wire trailer plugs differently. If the plug is not wired differently than yours, make sure the tow ball is clean. No rust. That's where the trailer gets its ground from. Usually they will work if thats the case, but not right. I can't remember what the wire colors are right now. Go to etrailer and look up the diagram.
Use a test light to check for power to one side of the lamp. If that is the only light out it probably isn't a fuse, but it is worth checking it anyhow. You might have to look for a broken wire in the trunk.
First check the fuse(s) under the hood, fuse box on drivers side, location of fuses on inside of fuse box cover, if fuse is good, then check for power to the fuse (test light) make sure it is connected correctly. If all is good the you will have to replace the plug assembly there is NO repair. Make sure it is a power plug and NOT a cigarette lighter plug.
the license lights work off of the tail light fuse.check the sockets for power using a test light(make sure you have a good ground).if no power then check were the wires are under the truck behind the bumper and move back down the wire 4" or so until you get power on the license light wire.there is a plug connector for the license lights at the back that may have a poor or damaged connections.
not sure fuse diagram would be helpful ,but there is a connection behind the rear
bumper at the tag that you can use a test light and some scotch lock wire connectors will get you underway quickly
it is located in the wire harness that runs along the column. You have to take off the panels around it to get at it. Some earlier models had a fusible link that was not replaceable and you had to buy the new harness (which came with an actual inline fuse). Not sure which one yours is.
I am having the same problem on an 04 2500hd there isa 15 amp stop light fuse inside the cab on the side of the instrument panel and a 25 amp stop light fuse under hood. you could also have a break switch issue the switch is located up on the break pedal linkage you should have power on the white wire when you push the pedal in (check with a test light) in my case I have a broken wire along the frame rail in the harness it is a light blue wire,
