Fuel Pump Applications Using a Fuel Pump Relay for Fuel Pump On/Off Control The Fuel Pump (FP) is a PCM output signal that is used to control the electric fuel pump. With the electronic EC power relay contacts closed, vehicle power (VPWR) is sent to the coil of the fuel pump relay. For electric fuel pump operation, the PCM grounds the FP circuit, which is connected to the coil of the fuel pump relay. This energizes the coil and closes the contacts of the relay, sending B+ through the FP PWR circuit to the electric fuel pump. When the ignition key is turned on, the electric fuel pump runs for about one second, but is then turned off by the PCM if engine rotation is not detected.
For applications with two speed fuel pumps, a normally closed low speed fuel pump relay (Figure 51) is wired into the fuel pump ground circuit. With the low speed fuel pump relay contacts in the normally closed position, there is no extra resistance in the ground circuit for high speed operation. For low speed fuel pump operation, the PCM will ground the Low Fuel Pump (LFP) circuit, which opens the relay contacts. With the relay contacts open, the fuel pump ground circuit now passes through a resistor that is wired into the circuit.

What sends power to the fuel pump on a 2004 ford freestar

There is a fuse and a relay. Ford also uses an inertia switch to shut power off to the pump in the event of a collision. Sometimes it doesn't take much to trip the switch. Usually they are behind the passenger side kick panel and a push of a button resets it.

I am changing the fuel filter on a 2005 ford freestar, I want to know how to relieve the fuel pressure . do i just remove the fuel cap or is there a fuel pressure relief valve in the engine bay.

Please don't forget to rate! Thanks!

Relieving Fuel System Pressure

Locate the fuel pump relay in the engine compartment fuse block at location K4/C-1051. Remove the fuel pump relay. Start the engine and allow it to idle until it stalls. Crank the engine for 5 seconds to ensure fuel supply manifold pressure is released. When vehicle service is complete, reinstall the fuel pump relay and turn the ignition on to pressurize the fuel system. Start the vehicle and check the system for leaks.

My ford freestar 2004 wont start it is nit getting fuel changed the fuel pump and still fuel wont go thru

Change the fuel filter and check two items.
1. Check to see if your fuel pump relay is good, you can do this by swapping say the a/c relay for it and the fuel pump for the a/c. If ac doesn't work but the van will run then you need to replace the relay.
2. in the event of a crash, you have what is called a emergency fuel cut-off switch which is usually located in the kick panel on the drivers side. Make sure it hasn't been tripped or better yet gone bad.
