2001 GMC Jimmy question. My hood release cable just snapped when tried opening it. Is there any other way to pop open the hood??

Pretty simple, open the hood, on the back of the headlights, there are 2 flat plastic tabs about 5" long that pop up and out. These will release the whole assembly for removal.

u need 2 ppl one to pull latch one to pop it on at hood once opened both should pull up on broken side til both side pullable then having something to hold it wouldbe good

Cable is stretched/sprung. Access hood release panel and pull cable with channel locks.. or worse, something is stuck in the latch mechanism under hood.
See repair rep at Ford in any case.

You may need a professional to get this hood open, and it will likely need to be on a car lift. Try this if you are handy, try removing the driver side fender well liner for access to the latch.

The hood release is located above where the drivers left leg would be on the dash board.

this is a hard one it depends on where it broke,can you cut the housing to get to cable core and pull with pleirs, if it snapped at latch then you will need to remove the grill or go from the bottom and try to hit the release the same wat the cable did,sometime if you grab the cable near the latch and pull hard it will open, good luck.

Remove the cable from the latch and any hold downs or clamps. Push the rubber gromet through the fire wall into the car. Remove the handel assy. and pull
the cable assy.out through the fire wall. Now, if the
gromet can be removed. You can decide if you wan't
to put it back from under the dash, or under the hood.
Whatever is easiest for you, but if it can't, it has to go
back from under the dash. Hope this helps.

You can pop out the intake plastic grid and access the hood lock mechanism from there

Try getting under the front of the car with a strong light. Try to see if you can see the cable going into the latch that holds the hood shut.

If you can get ahold of the cable with your hand or something to hold the cable. Give the cable a firm pull towards the left fender ( driver's side) and that should pop the hood open. Good Luck!

you might have to go under the car between grill and radiator and locate where the cable went to the hood latch and use pliers to grab latch to open it
