Every time you turn the ignition key on the fuel pump is activated and will make a humming sound. This is totally normal. If it is not a "hummmmmmmm" sound than you should have a mechanic look at it.

Loss of power when hot

Have you tried to change the fuel filter. This may be due for a change, or have some contaminant slowing the fuel down.
Also have you tried a fuel additive to clean the fuel system.
Try adding some methylated spirits. This will mix water with petrol and take it out of your fuel system. You can add 1/2 pint or 300 ml to a tank full of fuel without any change in performance. You do not need to do this often.

1997 subaru Impreza sport won't stay running . stalls after minute replaced Fuel pump, filter spark plugs wires ,cleaned injectors checked fuel pressure what next

check your grounds. I find many easy fixes by cleaning all the grounds around the engine bay. I would also check the ground at the fuel pump connector that wiring is prone to corrosion and breakage

2001 BMW 530, car turns over fine but sometimes just cranks and cranks without the engine starting. Battery turns engine over great but wont start. Next day starts great all day, then acts up again and...

sounds like a fuel pump or filter problem. replace filter first its cheaper than a fuel pump.my fuel filter on my 01 530 was under the driver side half way back along the bottom rail of the car.i had to remove the aero plastic with a plug puller that gave me acess to it.try and replace that first. if it doesn work its prob.fuel pump.

My 97 bmw 540i ran out of gas, it would not start after putting in more gas, what could be the problem?

Just leave the ignition on for maybe 5 minutes.
Allow the fuel to get pumped back to the engine.
I'm assuming it's an auto.
Hold the throttle to the floor for about 20 seconds & then try turn it over. (Don't forget to take the foot off if it starts up!)
There's a good chance your fuel filter is clogged up with any dirt/debris that might have been in the end of your fuel tank.
I would suggest replacing the fuel filter in the mean-time even if it does start.
Fuel pumps are known to break if the fuel line runs dry, a bit like some water pumps I suppose. You should be able to hear this when the ignition is at position II (just before starting). If it's running this obviously isn't the problem.
Check the fuses if you can't hear the pump. (You never know).
Let me know how you get on!

Fuel consumbtion

Hey, I read an article about this. Your BMW may be suffering from any one of nine of these causes, including bad spark plugs. See the list and explanations:

Where is fuel pump on 1996 960 Volvo?

The fuel pump of 960 is inside the tank attached together with the floater. There is a screen filter attached to the floater which need to be cleaned/changed from time to time. The outside filter is situated under the carriage. To know when the pump about to give problem, there will be a grinding/hissing sound.
