What key do i need to get our spare tire off our 1994 ford explorer

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Is there a bar underneath your hood? That may be chevy's. I'm not sure. Most autoshops have a master set though.

The spare tire key/lock on Ford trucks and SUVs is not the same a wheel locks.

This is a very common problem -- Ford's spare tire key being missing in a used truck, van or SUV. Ford has discontinued this spare lock model, because it obviously sucks. Unfortunately, this means your dealership probably can't order the new spare key for you. The company that made them is still around, and you can find out what size it is and re-order, but this is not the best solution.

Here is the best answer I found, for what it's worth.

Remove the spare tire lock completely, and you don't need a key at all. Problem solved. You must first remove the black plastic guide that leads to the spare lock. Then, with a screwdriver push our the lock, or you can pull it out with pliers. Afterwards and forevermore, you can use the black rod extension to turn the spare tire winch mechanism, and it will work beautifully every time.

If you want to read more details about how to remove the lock, and pictures to guide you, check here: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/333925-used-truck-has-no-spare-tire-key-2.html

Also, if you don't want to drive around with your spare unlocked (because, apparently, people steal spare tires), you can get an aftermarket tire lock for a very reasonable price -- and it will work, and be a heck of a lot better than the stock spare lock/key discontinued nightmare.

SOURCE: lneed spare tire key for 2008 Ford 3500HD crew cab 4x4 desiel. Need spare tire!!!!!

You should be able to order one from the dealer.
If you are talking about a key for the lug nuts, it will depend on if the wheels are from Ford.

I have a 2001 ford explorer, how can I get my spare tire from under my vehicle

The spare tire assembly lowers using the crank for the scissor jack. If the mechanism has jammed, use penetrating oil on the mechanism.

2005 Ford Explorer TPS and Adavance Trac lights are on.

Yes, using a tire of a different size will likely set the lights. Not sure what your local emissions test requires, but I would not put a bunch of miles on the car with the spare.

Where do I store the spare tire on a 1998 Ford Explorer? In the cargo area or does it go underneath? Thanks.

The spare tire is stored under the vehicle. There's a hole just above the license plate you insert the extended end of the jack handle into to lower and raise the spare tire. The jack and handle are stowed in the drivers side rear (just inside the rear hatch).
You can go to this FREE Ford website to view or download the users manual for this vehicle for a diagram if needed.

1994 ford explorer limited anti-theft

Two tips:
* If your anti-theft system is sounding (horn honking/lights flashing)you press the panic button on your key fob to shut it off.

* If your anti-theft system is armed (but not triggered) it is disarmed when you unlock the door(s) using your unlock button on your keyfob, the key pad on the driver's door, or your key.

Hope help with this. Good luck (remember rated this).

Need to access the spare tire on a 2000 ford explorer. IS there a special tool to lower the tire- how do I use it?

Yes, look under the hood in the front you will see a long rod looking thing held in with clips.Take this out and open the back of the explorer at the bottom center you see a hole facing the front of the car insert the rod and turn after it locks in. This will lower the spare.

I have a used 2004 Ford F250 and am in need of a spare tire key

Check this site for info- there are 16 different 'keys', so it would probably be best to follow instructions on how to use a 'bolt extractor' to drop the spare tire, and remove the 'key ' insert, so you can lower it w/ a 3/8 drive socket extension in the future, and lock it with a cable lock for security.
