Hi David:
I think most of the time something is jamming the latch rather than a part actually breaking.
Patience and gentle at first to try to avoid damaging anything.
Try pushing the door towards the closed position while trying to move the latch activating device. If it moves like it should, then try to pull the door open. If it won't move, try to figure out how the mechanism works (looking at another similar vehicle can help) and then see if there is a way to trip the latch mechanism.
Remove side clips holding the glove compartment into the console and unhook the elastic string that guides the compartment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Super VAG K+CAN V4.8
Gently pry around the cover with a flat tip screwdriver until you can feel where it is jammed. Then work that area until it opens. There is probably a piece of plastic, paper or cloth stuck there.
The car might be stucked in Valet mode. Use the black key that you have to open the trunk, it overrides the

It sounds like something got in the way of the latch when you closed it after putting your stuff in there. Take a screw driver and while gently prying on the door turn the latch at the same time. Once it opens and there wasn't anything jamming it then WD 40 time. Let me know how it turns out. Raz
Hi, how are you? From what you are describing the latch on the inside sounds like it has broken and is not releasing. You can try to lay on the floor and look up in the bottom of the back of the glove box there are two tabs one on each side.If you push these tabs inward the bottom of the box should come free and help the top to come free.If you cannot see the tabs or can’t get the tabs pushed in, you are going to have to force it open, you can do this with a flat pry bar, wrap the end with a cloth to protect the paint. The good news is that the glove box latch is pretty cheap to replace.
The most common cause is something inside the glove box jammed in the latch. Push glove box door release , and GENTLY insert a flat putty knife, plastic knife, or similar type tool in the groove of door, GENTLY try to pry open the door. U will probably (hopefully) find a napkin, map, or glove (does anybody actually put gloves in the glove box?) jammed in the inside latch. Let me know how u make out.
