96 Nissan Sentra, will not start, tapping the starter while someone is turning the ignition did not work. I do have some new information after trying some other stuff that might help so here it is:The indicator lights also do not work (forgot to mention earlier), When turning the ignition switch I hear a click int the relay under the dash and, in the computer- putting a test light to the wires on the back of the ignition switch (in the on position) all of the wires light up except 2 (not sure how many ground wires there should be)- trying to hot wire the starter it turns over but, still does not start- trying to hot wire the seleinoid nothing happens.

Thanks you very much for the suggestion but, I tried replacing the ignition switch (electrical part), shortly after posting this and, nothing changed- it still would not start.

Any more ideas? Any help would be great since, I am trying to figure this out and fix it my self. (recently unemployed = no money for repair service)

Yes, there is a relay switch under the dash. I was told that since I can here it click once while turning the key that the relay is OK. I took the starter and battery to auto zone to get them checked. The srarter checked out ok but, the guy said the battery was not putting out enough juice. I bought a new one but, it tsill won't start.

You may have a bad ignition switch. The contacts in it "turn on" several different things at once.

Was not aware you had replaced the ignition switch. This still sounds like a loose wire somewhere. Have you found an ignition switch relay under the hood?

Starting problem

check the switch that the clutch actuates.your ignition sounds like it works.some cars also must be in neutral if yours does the wires for this will plug into the transmission.you can bypass the switch at that point.

Ignition on but will not crank over . 2004 nissan sentra spec v.

Easiest way to tell if it is your starter is to have someone hold the key on and lightly tap on the starter. If it is the starter this should do the trick. If not, you have an electrical problem somewhere.

Need to bypass ignition switch

further diagnosis showed that the ingnition switch was fine it turned out to be a faulty 02 sensor that was making the engine run extremely rich, ruining the spark plugs.

I need to find the starter in a 96 nissan sentra and supply direct power to the solenoid to confirm that the ignitio switch is bad. who where is the starter and which wire do i supply the power to?

ase mechanic:
the starter is usually in front or back of engine. but always mounted next to the trans. to jump starter you have to apply voltage to small terminal, thats the ignition lead.
