1978 Chevy 1/2 ton Truck - fuel is not getting to fuel pump. We changed the fuel pump, and aux. switch. Truck ran for five miles then stalled. Checked line after pump replacement, fuel fine, drove, fuel stopped flowing.

The older model truck 1989 and older are being eaten up by the new fuel. I will bet that your pick-up tube in the tank has been eaten up and you are pulling vapors.

On the front of the carburetor where the fuel line comes in is the fuel filter.Did you change that?Take off that line and slip the end into a container, coffee can size.Have a friend turn over the motor, watch for fuel.If you get fuel your needle and seat have seized in the closed position. No fuel check the rubber lines that hook to the fuel pump. You replaced the pump,it's only $2 worth of rubber hoses. If they don't seal the pump can't pull the fuel,it's cheap insurance.

Hello. I recommend that you change the fuel filter and replace the gas cap. Both or either of these could solve your problem.

When you press on the gas when the truck is running, does it rev up?

Did it die while driving down the road (foot on the accelerator) or when idle? - If so, try cranking it and get your RPMs up to 1500-2000 RPMs and put it in drive (with your other foot on the brake). See if it will continue running if you never take your foot off the gas.

1978 CHEVY MANUAL FUEL PUMP

Sure.
The mechanical pump has a rubber diaphragm inside that can fail from old age.
You would disconnect the line to the tank and connect a vac gauge to see if the pump is working.

1995 nissan pickup truck fuel problem

Fuel injected or carb? Make sure fuel line itself is clear. Some pumps are designed to self regulate (carb systems) some continually pump and a psi regulator sends back the excess fuel back to the tank (fuel inj systems) If the line is obstructed then pump can't deliver fuel fulltime.

If you think pump is not on consistent, try running a dedicated wire through a switch directly to the pump. If it works then you are looking for an electrical fault going to pump. Good luck.
