1999 Corolla CE ~150k miles...When attempting to start the car, only in very cold temperatures (T<50*F), the engine has difficulty turning over and will start with a loud unidentifiable engine noise. The noise sounds like a belt...maybe a timing belt?...but cant tell and doesn't sound safe to drive on. Persists even if the key is removed from ignition completely, but once engine stops will restart normally with no further issues.

The car doesnt come with a timing belt, it has a 10 year worry free, internal timing chain, but it sounds like either your battery or starter, cold weather causes the electric flow to slow down, take your battery in to see if its ok, then check your starter. good luck and hope this helps

Over heating engine, can drive for 1 mile without damage?

Any engine, when cold, takes at least 3 miles before reaching operating temperature.. After reaching operating temp it still takes a mile or 8(depending on your vehicle) before "over" temperatures are reached. Therefore if needed, a vehicle can be driven several miles without any coolant/water at all before overheating and causing damage, if started from from cold.

Mercedes e230 1998. cold starting.

Mercedes has a cold start valve to spray extra fuel to assist the ignition when the temperature is cold. This is the problem with the cold start valve is not opened when it needed. There are 2 possible causes: 1- The valve is bad. 2- The coolant temperature sensor is bad.
The valve part is expensive and labor is not cheap. The first economic way to address is to replace the coolant temperature sensor. This sensor gives a different resistance reading as temperature changed. When it is bad, it give an erratic reading at cold temperature so the ECM could not recognize to give a signal to open the Cold start valve.

OIL CHANGE

5/30 is the correct oil to use (for maximum engine efficiency, gas mileage. !0/30 won't 'clog up' your motor, but it will make it more difficult to start in the cold weather. Just think of maple syrup in your fridge, try to pour it, compare to pouring @ room temp, The many oil lubricated engine parts will have difficulty turning, spinning, etc if u had cold thick syrup in the engine. Warm up the syrup, everything moves freely. The 10/30 is just a heavier (thicker if u will) oil, not what u should use in the cold weather. If u have your owners manual, check it out, it will give u the recommended oil weight to use for the temperature of your climate, but I think u will find 5/30 recommended for most situations. Always change your filter when u change the oil, change oil and filter 2x a year or 3k miles whichever comes 1st

1996 Corolla Auto Transmission problem

Hi. 2005 Corolla CE. It's normal. They tend to do this when upshifting form 1st to 2nd gear. No timing chain readjustment needed.

96 Corolla. Overdrive not working properly, if not engaging after 45mph constantly. If driving on the city, is normal, but not after 45mph, when the car is trying to engage overdrive in order to save gas and preserve the trans gears. If not able to get help at the dealership, find another one and explain them the situation.
