98 Nissan Maxima - Check Engine Light, Knock Sensor

I have a 98 Nissa Maxima and the check engine light is on. Its reading back that its the Knock Sensor but the sensor was recently replaced and the light comes back on about a day after being cleared.
Can't figure out whats going on, and without getting the check engine cleared for 72 hours I can't get a MA state car inspection.

If the car is pinging you will set a knock sensor code.'
This comes from bad gas and running lean., You really need this professionally inspected to rule out the basics. I have seen alot of nissans with the knock sensor code stored but the light is still off.
Fill up the tank with high octane chevron and some techron injector cleaner and clear the light. If it stays off for a couple days then go get it inspected. Even if the code is stored it will still pass as long as the light is still off and the monitors have run.

If knock sensor damage can start the vehicle

The knock sensor was designed as a listening device for the vehicle's engine. It is used to detect engine noises such as detonation, when fuel ignites in an engine's cylinder, as well as adjusts the ignition timing when the vehicle is being driven. When a knock sensor is not working properly, it may cause permanent engine damage. Therefore, there are various symptoms to aid in recognizing a faulty knock sensor.

My check engine light is on on my 98 nissan 200sx

the knock sensor tells the car's on board computer/PCM that the engine is pinging/knocking from poor fuel or the wrong octane or other engine related faults, they seldom fail, most likely the connector to the sensor is making a poor connection, the knock sensor is located on the engine block, it screws into th water jacket, do u hear any engine ping or spark knock?.

Nissan xterra knock sensor

It's the valley of the engine underneath the intake manifold. It's about an $800 job because the top of the engine has to come off. However, unless you have a supercharged xterra it shouldn't effect performance. Also, the knock sensor will not trip the check engine light, as it does not indicate a primary problem, so if your light is on you should have another code that should be fixed first.

Check Engine Light 1996 Nissan Maxima

The best way is to use a scan tool to clear the codes, that will turn off the light, also disconnecting the battery over night may work, but no completely sure about that, it varies from year to year.
