My trunk latch inside the car would sometimes stick and the trunk wouldn't shut until I wiggled the latch, now on Christmas Day my trunk won't shut at all. My dad said there should be something to adjust to get it to shut, but my husband says there is nothing to adjust. How can I get my trunk to close? We have it tied shut for now. 2001 Chevy Cavalier
It may just be the latch is worn out. They can be replaced.
My trunk did this too a few months ago. When I looked up why I found that it's common for the metal latch hook on the bottom to basically rust out and just break so when you close it the latch doesn't grab on to the hook. I had my brother just spot weld a piece of metal under the hook so it would stay in place allowing the latch to catch. I hope this helps.
