I have a 1997 Chevy Suburban 1500 with a 5.7L engine and 4L60e transmission. The transmission doesn't go into gear when first placed in Drive or 3rd. I have to place it in 1st or 2nd gear and manually shift up to Drive the first time I start down the road. Once I've shifted up to Drive the transmission downshifts and upshifts normally from stops until I place it in Park or Reverse. If I shift into Park or Reverse then I must go through the manual shifting again. Also, if I don't get to 4th gear before I stop, I must go through the manual shifting again. This happens whether the transmission is hot or cold. I've read several forums searching for an answer but the symptoms described while similar aren't exactly like mine. I don't know whether it would be a broken front sprag, a bad solenoid or a faulty connection. Any ideas? Thanks!
Transmissions in chevy trucks show internal problems by a flashing gear selector indicator light or the light wont come on at all
No forward movement in OD or D, but L2, L1 and R work: Forward sprag is broken. Transmission must be removed and rebuilt. Try not to run or drive the car or further damage could result.
hope it help
Sounds like a bad shift selenoid in the transmission not letting it shift on its own. The transmission usually needs to be overhauled.
U could go to library sec629 view some auto books-but there is mucho miles on that tran n it can be a # of things and sounds like internal wear--go ask advice from pros
