2000 VW Beetle idles rough and loses power on acceleration

My 2000 VW Beetle idles really rough and loses power on acceleration. Not all the time just sometimes - especially going up hills. It feels like the more gas I give it the weaker it gets so I just kind of go light on the gas til it catches up to where it should be and then it's fine.... engine light is on.This seems to go away after driving it for 15 minutes or so. This started immediately after I let someone use my car to jump start their Jeep - but I've been told it isn't my alternator because it always starts up just fine.

You need the engine control computer scanned for faults, do that first.

Gas peddle won't produce rpm's. kind of a rough idle. Vehicle will move when put into gear and brake released but pressing gas does nothing.. (automatic)

did you check and see if the cable snapped for the accelerator, have someone push the peddle a few times and you watch to see if the accelerator lever that the cables connect to move if not they obviously broke and need to be replaced

Is your check engine light on? Check the throttle body or maybe the accelerator pedal is bad.

My 2000 VW Beetle idles really rough and loses

I had that problem for the longest time. I had to clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Very easy to get to. Go to any auto parts store and ask them for the MAFS Spray. If cleaning it doesn't work, you may need to replace the MAFS. Once again easy to replace. Make sure you put it back nice and tight.....

Did you swap out your distributor cap and rotor? Try that first - it's not going to be the cat. You may be losing compression in cylinder #1 one... Hope its the cap/rotor...
