Emergency brake stays on when fully disengaged

My problem in my 1993 gmc sierra is that the emergency light on the dashboard stays on even when the emergency brake is fully dis-engaged. Just replaced the Master Cylinder, replaced brake fluid, bleeded the brakes. After hours of work the light still stays on.

Why r my tail lights staying on my 1993 gmc Sierra

Are you sure it is the tail lights and not the brake lights? If the park lights are staying on, the front should be on as well in most cases. If it is the brake lights staying on, suspect a faulty brake light switch located at the brake pedal

1989 GMC SIERRA BRAKE LIGHT IN DASH STAYS ON [CHECKED FOR AIR IN BRAKE LINES-NO AIR] [BRAKE FLUID LEVEL GOOD] [BRAKE PEDAL PULLED UP] IN DASH BRAKE LIGHT STAYS ON

Check your emergency brake. Make sure it isn't partially pressed in. Try unplugging the switch to the emergency brake and see if the light goes out; if it does the switch is bad.

Emergency brake light stays on the dash. is it a troubleshooting light?

It probably indicates that the cable is not being fully retracted when brake is disengaged. Spray as much of cable as possible with WD-40, allow to sit for a few hours, the engage and disengage the brake several times untill it loosens. If this fails the cable may be stretched and needs to be replaced.

The emergency dash light stays on after emergency brake is fully disengaged.i recently replaced master cylinder.

the rewd brake light comes on for two reasons, the E brake in use,or air in the hydraulic brake system,
unhook the E brake switch first,it is connected to the E brake pedal up high,if your light is still on it will be you need to bleed the brakes

How do i check the emergency brake light. every time i disengage the EB the light stays on even though the brake is disengaged

Either the peddle is not going up fully to meet the switch that turns the light off or the switch may be loose or faulty

Both brake and abs lights are on. I've replaced both front wheel hubs, and checked all fuses.cant seem to locate the problem

you have an ABS code in the ABS computer. You most likely damaged an ABS sensor. even after myouo fix this you will need to get the code cleared
NOTE: autozone wont be able to access the ABS computer.

I.P Brake light is staying on.. what does this mean

Hi,

Offhand, the brake light warning on most dashboards would indicate that the hand/emergency brake is engaged. If even when the hand/emergency brake is disengaged or is in normal position and the light is still lit, it could indicate that:
  • the brake fluid in the reservoir is below minimum level;
  • and possibly the brake shoes/pads need replacement.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
