There are 2 possible scenarios, on some Subaru's there is an external spin off filter on the left side of the transmission which looks similar to a spin off oil filter, the other is you have to drain the fluid and remove the pan on the transmission to change the filter, either way it will tak 4-5 qts of fluid poured down the dipstick tube to refill it. Be careful not to overfill

Yes you do but if you only removed filter and fluid in the pan it should only be around 5 quarts. also make sure you use the right dipstick located on right side of the engine because there is one on the left side for the transfer case which takes gear lube. might want to purchase a transmission funnel makes it easier.

How to check tranny fluid

To check and add transmission fluid on your Ranger:
1. Drive the vehicle 20 miles (30 km) to reach normal operating temperatures.
2. If driven in hot weather or city traffic, allow transmission to cool for 30 minutes.
3. Engage parking brake, start engine.
4. Press the brake pedal and move the gearshift lever slowly through all gear ranges.
5. Shift to P (Park) and leave the engine running.
6. Remove the dipstick, wipe clean with a dry lint free rag.
7. Install and fully seat the dipstick into the filler tube.
8. Remove dipstick and inspect fluid level. It should be in the cross-hatched area.
9. If necessary, add fluid in 1/2 pint (250 ml) increments through the filler tube until the level is correct at normal operating temperatures.

How do I change the transmission fluid for a 1996 Ford Fairlane please?

Get to the parts store and buy at least 5, or more qts of type F or whatever fluid it calls for now days, and get a filter kit for it. Next saturday, get some cardboard, big pieces, and some rags, and a tub, jack the car up, drop the pan, if there is a drain plug, drain it first, then drop the pan, take out the plastic thingy floating in there and toss it, pull down the filter, replace it, change the gasket, no adhesive, and put the pan back up, pour in your 5 qts of fluid, and you should be all set. If it has a dipstick, fill it there, If not, you have to fill it on the side of the tranny. 2 plugs, bottom one is level, top one is fill. Hope this helps. If you want to purge the tranny of all 13 qts, you have to take it to a shop with a pump and pump it full,

Alright so say i have put 8 1/2 things of remission fluid and it has still not over flowed could that be bad??? and what do you have to do

You put 8 1/2 qts of tranny fluid in there and What??? Where did you put it?? Do you have a dipstick?? Or filler plug on the side of the tranny? A filter change only requires 5 qts at the most, that is taking the pan down. A total rebuild requires 13. I don't know what you did, but something is wrong. You didn't dump it in the oil did you? Check it out. I'm dieing to find out.

Where is the transmission fluid filler on ford fiesta 1996 auto

You need a medium-sized funnel; or a specially-designed transmission fluid filler funnel with a short hose attached to it (at Auto parts store for $5)... use a medium-sized funnel....

The filler tube is the same as the transmission dipstick tube.
Check the fluid level with the engine running, in park.
before adding fluid, turn off engine.

Insert the funnel into the tansmission dipstick tube, slowly pour in fluid (slowly!)..

In an emergency, you can make a funnel with paper or cardboard or sheet of plastic. ... and maybe duct tape...

Hope this helps!
