I just replaced the fuel pressure regulator and now I am hearing a vibrating noise from the fuel line under the truck. What do you think the problem is.

  • Anonymous Feb 28, 2015

If your hearing a vibrating noise from the fuel line under the truck or it sounds like it is coming from the fuel tank, try replacing the fuel pressure regulator. If you did already replaced the regulator and you are herring that vibration, that is because you did not replace the regulator with a genuine GM regulator, not some after market brand. Trust me, I made that mistake and replaced a fuel pump for nothing. the new pump made the same noise. Then I replaced the regulator with a GM regulator and the noise stopped.

The fuel pressure regulator is mounted on the spider injection assembly which is under the intake manifold.

It's the bronze can looking thing on the right of the rectangle.
As far as your hard start while sitting for extended periods,
perhaps the injectors are leaking, flooding the cylinders.

I should have said it is under the upper intake manifold. The whole intake doesn't have to come off, just the top part.

You will need a new upper intake gasket and a torque wrench would be help full but not absolutely necessary. The bolts don't need much torque so just don't go crazy when tightening them. The upper intake isn't too hard, will probably take you a few hours. The hardest part will be removing the fuel lines. You will need to disconnect them from the intake and from the the hard lines at the back of the intake as well to remove it. I'm not sure if removing the injectors will be necessary to replace the regulator but if it, is be careful. The plastic injector tubes can get brittle after time and break. Also be sure to put the injectors back in the right ports.

Chevy silverado 1500 z71 4wd. Sputters when starting and dies when pressing on the gas, wont start up sometimes.

How many miles do you have on it? Might be time for a tune-up (new plugs, plug wires, etc.) Start with the simple things first - have you changed your fuel filter? Could also be bad gas - couple of bottles of Heet (alcohol) will help with this. Then move on to more things like a Vacuum leak, fuel pump.

I have a 1999 Chevy LS 2500, when I start it cold it struggles to accelerate and occasionally something knocks when cold and losses power. Even if I let it warm up the problem persists for about a mile....

Number of problems it could be.
1. Clogged or bad fuel pump/filter
2. Plugged catalytic converters
3. Tune up, air filter, plugs & wires
4. Vacuum leaks
5. Bad cam / crank sensor
Sounds like it's starving for either fuel or air.

Hard to start / engine rotates but wont start

check fuel pressure with a gauge, turn the key in the on position an read pressure ,if pressure goes lets say to 40 or 50 on one key cycle pump is prob. good . if it takes 3 to 4 key cycles to achieve this pressure ,pump is bad or connection in tank is bleeding off over night.
