Removing front hub assembly

I think I have a noisey, rattlelike sound coming from my hub assembly. It goes away after 3-5 miles of driving. I thought it was the front bearings. If this is true, removing front hub assembly requires what size socket is required for the hub nut? Any other special tools required?

No bumps, just slow to medium speed. Goes away after 3-5 miles, before I get up to freeway speeds. I hope it's not the front differential!

I've never heard a hub make a rattle noise. A bad hub bearing will usually make a roaring or whining noise at speed and/or it will have play in it. When is the rattle noise made, over bumps, at a slow speed, at high speeds?

Good Evening, those noises can be annoying and sometimes hard to find. However it sounds like you have a front hub assembly going bad. Usually the noise goes away when you veer one direction or the other. I have heard some transfer case noises but they usually do not go away on turns. Check those front hub-wheel bearing assemblies and see what you come up with. Hope this points you in the right direction.

Brakes makin nosie

Sounds like a wheel hub assembly is bad without seeing it. Alot of GM vehicles have the ABS wheel speed sensors built into the hub assemblies. Should be able to narrow the noise down by driving the car slightly turn left and right noise should change from loud to soft when turning the wheel. ( if you turn left and noise gets louder hub on right front is noisey.Opposite will occur if left side is bad)

My 98 gmc jimmy 4d 4wd makes a loud humming noise as I drive it.

a front wheel beran will make a grinding nose if it is bad and when you trun one way or the other the nose will go away. i do not think that is your prolbem . if your car vibberate or make a skueaking nose it could be cv joint or a front universal joint.

Squeaky sound front left tire and 4Wheel Drive will not turn on

the squeak could be brakes or wheel hub/bearing. most likely it is the bearing and hub assembly, i would not drive it , take it to you local service station and have then replace or repair the hub assy.
