Is engine cranking over or just nothing? if dash lights are on but nothing out to starter ect. double check electrical portion of ignition switch(when looking at back side of switch assy, where wiring feeds in look carefully to see if any of the solder joints have gotten hot and fell off)

I have same car 1989 honda crx, what worked for car was I took the Idle Air Control Valve ( IACV ) off and cleaned it with carb cleaner. What you will need is a 12mm socket and only has two screws, and pliers to take off two small hoses attached to it.. And most important carb cleaner to clean the inside of IAVC. Plus you can also search for this on the Internet ...1989 honda crx Idle Surges! Hope this helps...
I would suggest an ignition module. If it is a rough idle at startup I would check the throttle position sensor. You can check that by starting the car and unplugging the TPS. If the car runs differently then chances are it is working fine.
Easy one. This is a common problem on 88-91 Civics and CRX's.Check your main relay under the drivers side dash.It provides power to the ECU,fuel pump, and injectors. Its a squarish box with a single plug going into it held on by one 10 mm bolt. The solder joints break down over time and cause the condition you're having. You can pry off the plastic cover and resolder the joints if you are handy with a soldering iron,or just ask for a main relay at Autozone, etc.
