06 Colorado wont start at times

My 06 Colorado will just turn over at times, like it is fuel starved. You can hear the fuel pump engage when you first turn the key on so I don't think that is the problem. If you leave the truck alone for a half hour or so then try to crank it again, it will fire with no problem at all. There is a check engine light on so I had the auto parts store pull he codes. THey said it could be one of the following:
#1 purge or vent solenoids defective
#2 check connector or wiring
#3 fuel saturated vapor canister
#4 failed EVAP vent solenoid

What should I do to isolate these possible causes?

There is a faulty switch in the steering wheel column. My truck did the same thing. Next time check to see if the security light flashes next time it doesn't start. the time delay is more like 10 min.

When the truck won't start next time, get out, pop your fuel cap, and listen for a hissing noise.

If you hear it, your vent or EVAP system needs to be serviced.

My first indication is that the vent is plugged, and as the vehicle warms/cools, it's vapor locking the tank.

I would have a fuel pressure test done on it to determine the exact pressure although you hear the pump work if it is so much as off by just a few pounds of pressure it will not stay running and spit n sputter as well as a lack of power

could also be one of the sensors on the exhaust which tells teh computer how much fuel / air ratio to deliver
ask for a print out of the codes and look them up on the computer or obtain the codes again yourself by using a code reader from a parts store ...................they will allow you to use it for free .
simply plug it into you car and turn the key to on position it will give you any and all codes as it will communicate to your vehicle

Start with the fuel pump. When you get into your car turn the ignition key to the on position but do not start your car.Listen for the fuel
Pump to engage, you will hear a low whine. If you hear the pump engage, that doesn't rule that the fuel pump is fine.It sounds like the pump though.

I have an 04 colorado. I just put a new fuel pump and filter in it. Now it wont start I drained all the old gas out and put fresh gas in. I hear the fuel pump working and checked to see if I had fuel...

If you have gas, and the fuel pump is working, all i can suggest is cycling the ignition on and off several times to fill the system. Don't turn the engine over, just turn the key on until the fuel pump cuts out, and repeat. Do this several times. If gas is the problem, it should fire up. If it doesn't, better check for spark. Let me know how you make out.

Why wont it start when you push start it has alt belt and has gas no ignition would that stop it from starting not geting gas to engin but all lines are holding gas so how do you bypass the fuel pump to...

When you turn the ignition on, it starts the fuel pump then sends fuel to the injectors. Since there is no ignition to engage the pump, it will 'starve' the vehicle of fuel. You might run a power source directly to your fuel pump but I'm NOT suggesting that because it would be wrong for me to tell you something like that... plus it could be dangerous. Remember, if you just happen to decide to do something like that, the fuel pump will not stop until you disconnect it (or it burns up). Be Careful!. Don't forget to vote if this helped you.

Wont start

when you turn the key to the ON position you should hear your electric fuel pump come on (a quiet hissing noise) if you dont hear this noise your fuel pump has gone out, if you do hear the noise you might want to check your fuel filter it could be clogged and starving the engine of fuel
