I have a 2007 Equinox. For the past 2 weeks the engine light is on as well as "Service Stabilitrak-Reduced engine power". When I step on the accelerator, the car takes a while to get to a decent speed. It almost feels like it its in neutral. What could it be?
The engine light is a generic fault indicator in your car to point out something is not quite right with the engine, having a loss of power as well is also known in some areas as Limp Mode or Safety Mode. it means the car is restricting the power it gives to ensure no damage it done to the engine.
the only certain way to find out what is wrong is to take it to a garage that has diagnostics equipment that can read the fault codes from the vechicles ECU (the fault codes will be the reason the light on the dash has come on as its reporting a fault somewhere)..
your mechanic should be able to tell you what is wrong with the engine from that and give you a more accurate cost at fixing it.
My 2007 equinox has that problem: engine light alarm, stabilitrak off, engine speed reduced, and it doesnt matter if im running ><40 or <120 in the hwy.
to regain normal speed running , i reset it to factory setting and it works.

Have 2000 chev sliverado, the towall all of a sudden has quit, the light on the dash does not come on now, what maybe the problem??
FOR THE 2007 CHEVY EQUINOX, STAY AWAY FROM CAR WASH'S THAT SPRAY THE UNDERCARRIAGE. I'VE HAD TWO PROBLEMS. REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND THE CAR WAS STUCK IN PARK WOULDN'T RELEASE WHILE RUNNING.

I got a message saying Reduced Engine Power and it was due to my wiring harness. It had went completely out. Luckily it was still under warranty
