Getting code P2070 which goes of by itself.

Just recently starting getting code P2070. The check engine light will go off & on by itself. The first time it happened I filled the gas tank & used Lucas. The check engine light went off after about 1/4 of a tank was used. It came back on under 1/2 tank. It has intermittently gone on & off for about a week. Definition I get is manifold tuning valve stuck. I have a 2004 Rx-8 with just over 100,000 miles.

SOURCE: #5 cylinder misfire

I have a corolla and had #4 cylinder misfire also diagnosed at autozone. After changing the spark plugs, problem persisted, along with the same error code, so they recommended changing the spark plug wires, and that is what fixed it. I would have changed the rotor cap too, but was low on dough. Glad that was not the problem.

I have a 2004 Ford f150 5.4 and I am getting a P0171 code by itself on and off. Whenever check engine light comes on the truck doesn't accelerate steadily but once the light goes off its fine. What co

Code 171 means the O2 sensor is telling the computer the fuel mixture for bank one is too lean. Bank one is the side with cylinder number one. The problem could be the sensor, or something else like an injector that is actually causing the fuel mixture to be lean. The sensor would need to be checked.

Check engine light code P0172. I have been having the computer reset with oil change place so the check engine light goes off and usually stays off for a long time. Finally, the light came on and then...

The code you mention, P0172 - Fuel Trim Malfunction - System Too Rich (Bank 1)
The engine is a 2.0 lit (4 cylinder). Have you checked to see if the vehicle's powertrain is still under warranty (to include fuel system problems)? If original owner & under 100,000 miles, it may very well be under the powertrain warranty. Check with your nearest Hyundai Dealership & ask the appropriate questions.

My experience with this particular Fuel Trim Malfunction:

1. Clogged engine air filter restricting proper intake air flow
2. Leaky fuel injectors
3. Fuel pressure too high
4. Faulty MAF (Mass Air Flow Meter/Sensor).
5. Faulty TPS (Throttle Position Sensor).
6. Faulty Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IAT)
7. Faulty Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT).

These causes are only offered as a place to start looking/diagnosing -- NOT intended to cause you to start throwing money after engine parts which may not be the cause -- have it properly diagnosed (probably under warranty).

Hope this helps.

Just got a 2001 Lincon Towncar /Exec-L series from a friend. The ABS, Check engine & Brake lights kept coming on & off. Ran codes and got U1039 & P0306. Replaced the #6 Coil and all plugs(P0306...

Congratulations on getting it to run like a champ.

The ABS light is likely due to a bad wheel speed sensor, which would be consistent with the speedometer coming and going.

Try to get an Actron Brakescan Tool for about $99 or so plus shipping, and you can scan the codes and get English explanations of which circuit is bad.

I purchased one to diagnose and repair a 1997 Cadillac Deville. The Actron Brakescan tool covers most American vehicles from 1996 to 2005. So, this diagnosis should be right up the alley of this tool.

One can go from there as far as checking out the sensors and the wiring more closely.

Check engine light on. stalling & surging. had tune-up recently. seems to be not getting enough fuel.

vaccum leak or faulty sensor could be the problem. If you have the check engine code. that would help so much. along the lines of not getting enough fuel....maybe....maybe not, check the fuel pressure, if its fine, something else.... realy need the engine code. oh, could also be the oxygen sensor, if its fouled up that would cause the engine to surge and stall. BUT if the check engine light is on, you need to find out what code it is. you can manualy look this up using your owners manual, it will give you specific instruction on how to extract the code out of the computer.

good luck

1992 accord hard starts, engine light, steam off hood in rain

The check engine light comes ON when the cars computer(the ECU) notices any kind of electrical problem in car.In some cases the check engine light comes on then turns off.In that case the exact error is not getting confirmed so this happens. But once the problem gets confirmed the engine light will remain permanently ON till the problem gets solved. In this case i suggest you to get your car scanned at autozone service center. Its absolutely free.In case in the car scanning,if any error code is retrieved then you can check which part is faulty as per the error code.In case if no error code is retrieved then you can continue driving, till you get any confirmed indication. ---------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.
