THE CAR IS SHAKING, SOMETHING IS WRONG! I DON'T WANT TO JUST TURN THE LIGHT OFF

  • jimmyhuggins Dec 30, 2009

The code pulled is P0356, which is for an ignition coil on the #6 cylinder

First check and make sure your gas cap is tight, if this does not resolve the problem read below.
A vacuum hose has become disconnected, more than likely due to having your air filter replaced. The VSC and Check engine light typically don't come on until after 150-200 miles after the vacuum hose was pulled out.
The fix: on the right-hand-side of the engine compartment behind the big plastic housing that holds the air filter you will find a black rubber hose that is not connected to anything. Squeeze the finger clamp on the hose and slide the hose back onto the half inch nipple on the back of the air filter's plastic housing.
In order for the VSC and Check engine light to be turned off, you will need to open the fuse box, right-side of the engine compartment, and pull the 20 amp EFI fuse for 10 seconds. This will reset the system. The fuse location is marked on the lid of the fuse box, also I believe the EFI fuse is the only 20 amp fuse
. This will help. Thanks, please keep updated. please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

Thanks for the tip Charlymonty! Both lights lit up on my way home after buying the car! Not only was one of the hoses off but also the two screws that hold the air filter housing shut. I hope this 2008 RX350 with 57000 miles does not give me anymore heart attacks. Can you imagine the Check engine light and the VSC come on 15 minutes after buying it?

I know what you mean mine didn't even make it home after I brought it had to replace the alternator and now the check engine light and VCS light as well as the tire pressure light are on checked the pressure in the tires and they are fine must be a faulty tire sensor. UGGGG I love the car but problem after problem haven't even had the car a week.

It will be a sensor fault. At this stage we would be totally guessing. Go to your nearest auto parts store that offers free code - reading

Get the code & post it on here, I can then get you exactly in the right direction

Kind regards

Ok, that is possibly good news as this should be inexpensive and simple DiY but will require code clearing.

Your engine has 6 seperate pencil coils, what we need to confirm here is whether it is the number 6 coil, wiring or ECU trigger unit failure. I would guess it would be the coil but here is how to be sure and not waste money.

I have to be honest here I am unsure what position cylinder number 6 is, perhaps they are numbered 1 to 6, the hand book may tell but if not just ask the dealer, they will know for sure.

Once you have the coil layout, simply swap coil 6 with another coil on the engine. With the codes reset go for a drive until the light comes on again.

Then get the code read, if still P0356 then it is most likely loom connector or ECU, check wiring loom and maybe get ECU tested

BUT.... If my guess is correct you will have a new fault code of P035*

    * = the position you put the dodgy coil in, say cyl. 2 then you will get P0352 & so on.

Good luck, I am 99% it will just be a coil.

While you have a coil out you will see a number on it like 90919-02345 or similar. Type the number into Google or another net search engine, you may find them on Ebay at very good prices.

    Kind regards

    Lloyd

2008 Lexus RX350-I have VSC OFF light flashng, along with both the TRAC light and Check Engine light on. - Why

There may be nothing wrong with the VSC or TRAC system. These lights will come on if there is a malfunction, causing the Check Engine Light to Turn On. The ECM and PCM share information with the other systems. If a fault is detected. It is possible the other systems will not function correctly. You will need to read the codes or have them read by a shop or dealership. Get prices first. This service may cost between $50. to $120. If there is anything else please feel free to write back.

Hi
first I hope that you are well now
did you replaced the battery?
if yes, do this procedure and your car will be drivable.
switch ignition ON then OFF 10 times writhing10 seconds ( in total)
then switch ignition ON and leave it for 1 minute then you start the engine.
if you did not replace the battery yet, better you change it first

My car is showing a message on the display. it shows ''Check VSC" what is the meaning of this message?

"vehicle skid control". If "check engine" light is on , it will set the "vsc" light. Have all "engine" and "abs" codes pulled.

The VSC along with check engine lights are on. Is this a major problem?

Have the PCM scanned for codes. With Toyota, the VSC light will come on any time the check engine light is on. You can drive the vehicle. Just have it scanned when you have time.

Vsc light on my lexus rx 350 2007 .

I'm not sure about the Lexus, but Nissan and other vehicles with the VSC usually will be on until you can drive on a straight road for approximately 2-3 miles without stops and about the same speed during the reset process. The interstate or some type of hwy will reset this light once the vehicle has learned the Vehicle Stabilization Control in which is learned by the way you drive and enables the car to have stable control. Hope this helps out, if this doesn't work, I would take it in for more diagnostics.
