Power steering is stiff on 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe and it is making loud noise. We checked the fluid and it is full.

The fluid was low due to a leak in the lines. Parts coming in tomorrow and I will post what they did to fix it. Truck only has 105,000 km's on it.

Hi you have checked p/steering fluid have you checked the pump drive belt ? it may be loose/worne out and in need of replacement? also more important ? when did you last check tyre pressures honestly ??? these are the 1st things to check at least weekly ? considering age of vehicle and probable milage? if the belt/s have not been renewed ? might be worth doing? before failure when you are on freeway ? you can diy belts saving $$$$s garage cost/labour charge and you can purchase from most good motor stores/factors instead of dealers prices ?

2003 Hyundai Santa fe, pump changed 3 times, last time Hyundai pump, reservoir, Hyundai fluid and both high and low pressure hoses. cooler is clear and flows free. Still have a whine.

if you are talking power steering system, the whine is a vibration in a problem control valve and could be in the steering valves on the rack

How much do a cost actually bleed the power steering system of a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

nothing if you do it yourself.....remove power steering pump top......turn steering wheel all the way right slowly...then turn the steering wheel all the way left.... repeat about 5 - 6 times and top off power steering fluid...repeat if necessary..

The power steering fluid in my 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe is low and I can hear an unusual sound when I drive......can I use ATF instead of power steering fluid

Have the steering checked to find
out if it is leaking

Only use the correct fluid in your
owners manual

No manual stop by a dealer and ask the techs
in the shop

Power steering pump in noisy when first started when cold, 2004 santa fe 3.5, has 62000 miles

Try flushing the fluid, which you should be
doing every 3 years
Add a bottle of Lubgard for power steering or
what ever the dealer has
Use the correct MFG Fluid

Eventually you will replace the pump,
when you can no longer stand the noise.

Then steering rack most likely is about to fail
from not changing the fluid and is causing stiffness
and high pressure thus the noise

Whining noise when turning steering wheel. Power teering fluid is ok. any suggestions.

It is probably the belt slipping around the pulley on the power steering pump.
Just have that replaced and it should be fine.

Hope that helps,
Matt

WHICH POWER STEERING FLUID TO USE IN 2003 HYUNDAI SANTA FE

You must use the fluid type stipulated by the vehicle manufacturer as there are different specs for different vehicles.

The specification for power steering fluid should be listed in your owners manual. You can then purchase a quality brand at that spec.

If you don't have the owners manual ring the dealer service department or parts department and they will give you the correct specification for your particular model.
