My 2006 Town Car is leaking a small amount of oil. Garage has checked and replaced oil plug and tightened oil filter but I am still noticing small 1/2 dollar bill size leak on garage floor. Any ideas? Cost of repair? Or should I live with it?

Wabbit2, appreciate reply. It appears to be under oil filter side of engine. Color of leak is light clear yellow. Seems to match oil color used in engine. Seems to accumulate over night. Car is still under warranty, do you think issue might be covered by warranty? Thanks, Dave

Do not live with it, problem will only get worse. Info provided is not enough for any guesses. Where exactly is the leak on floor? below tranny? below crankcase? by the radiators? what type of oil is it? what color?

Check for stains in the valve cover gasket on the side of the oil filter, and in the engine block right above the filter. There is not much that can leak on that side, other than filter itself, and you already checked it. You HAVE to take the car to dealer for warranty inpection, and repair. The issue not only has to be covered by warranty, but by not doing so in time, it might void the warranty, for being careless about it.

Oil filter gasket

Your oil filter comes with a rubberized o-ring. When you take off the old oil filter, make sure you get the old oring with it. If you don't you'll have problems with the new one. Apply a light coat of clean oil to the new filters o-ting before installing. This helps the filter bond to the motor. turn the old filter counter clockwise to remove it. When installing new filter, fill filter with oil prior to installation. Turn clockwise to tighten. Tighten till snug, then give it an extra quarter turn for tightness. Again, make sure you remove the old o-ring from the motor if it does not come out with the old oil filter. No need to take new oring off new oil filter. Just fill, lubricate seal and install.
