I have a 1997 5.7 Liter Cheverolet Z71. The 4 wheel drive is not engaging. I can hear the trasfer case engage and can even hear the difference in the transmission when in 4 Lo/hi when driving. However getting stuck the other day showed me that only one wheel in the back actually turns and that not all wheels are fully engaged. Also, the automatic LED on the dash will flash when trying to engage but never stops blinking as it used too, which was supposed to let me know that the 4 wheel drive was actually locked in. Please Help.

you may have to replace your trasfer case control module its right under dash driver side easy to access mine just went out it was throwing c0359 code 4 low cirut and service four wheel drive would come on dash although the 4wd works great it just throws the code.

bad trasfer case selector motor common problem i ve a ton of these replace that motor and youll have 4 wd again ,the part is costly about $ 300.00. hope this helps.

When you turn the dial to 4 wheel drive it controls a solonoid unit that then controls the electric motor that shifts the trasfer case to 4X4. The clicking sound that you are hearing is probobly the solonoid unit (4x4 control unit) engaging or trying to engage the trasfer case motor. From what I,ve heard the solonoid unit is located behind the plastic panel that is under the glove box and before the passenger side door. Moisture can build up in that area and ruin the solinoid unit over time. Check any fuses that have any thing to do with the 4x4. If the solonoid unit or fuses is not the problem, I would check the wireing to the electric transfer case motor and the motor itself. Good luck and God bless!

stop the truck ,place in nutral,push trasfer case lever down then pull back to position 2h place into gear if it still feels like its engaged back up a few feet then go forward that should do the trick

see if the front driveline engages, then move to the front wheels if they do not engage check the actuator on the front diff

Is it manual front hubs?

I have to stop, engage 4H or 4L, and shift into nuetral and then the front gear box will then engage and you can hear it from nuetral and the engine at idle, it will slip into gear, if not, in gear go slow with 4x4 light "on" and while rolling slip into nuetral and then back into D, Some transfer cases will not engage in Overdrive, the D with a circle around it so shift into 3rd gear the one to the right of the D with a circle around it. 4 H has a speed limit, and do not shift into 4L while on pavement or you can do some damage.
