1996 GMC jimmy wont go into gear.. Changed inline fuel filter and afterwards it cranks up but wont go in drive or reverse.

You may have inadvertently disconnected the shift cable at the transmission, or the cable end may have broken.

I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy. It has an automatic transmission. When I put it in reverse it acts like it's in neutral.

Does the transmission actually go into reverse when selected and the indicator shows neutral or does it not go into reverse and the indicator displays reverse and the tranny is in neutral?

Why do I have reverse gear but no reverse lights? Light worked recently, and not bad bulbs or anything, what could it be? I have a 1996 gmc jimmy sls 2wd automatic. Thank you

Does you shift indicator point to "R" when in reverse. The reverse light are switched on by the selector shaft position sensor built into the Parp/Neutral Safety Switch. It may be bad or just out of adjustment.

I have a 2000 gmc jimmy the backup lights wont turn off when in drive or any gear can some one help and give some advice on how to fix it

My first guess would be a faulty neutral safety switch which also acts as the switch for the reverse lights.
I think the switch is mounted on the transmission where the shifter rod extends out. You should be able to unplug the switch and see if the lights go off.

1996 GMC Jimmy manual - need help with 4 wheel drive - stuck in 4 wheel low and can't get out

Try to place the vehicle in park, then reverse, move the vehicle a few feet in reverse, then switch to neutral but NOT DRIVE. Attempt to take it out of low again and then go to drive. This is the method I had to use occassionally when my vehicles would get stuck in low.

1997 GMC Jimmy, Won't go into reverse,but all other gears work,ok.

Check the automatic transmission fluid color.

It should be lite pink and there is ZERO odor of burn friction material.

TOP OFF is it's low on ATF

=====

Have some one the check on the reverse light when you put the truck into the reverse gear.

NO reverse lights then the neutral safety is falling.

=====

Check for free play on the gear lever. Pay close attention on the transmission end.

USE clear to remove excess dirt.

=====

Inspect transmission pan and the floor for ATF leak.

My 2000 gmc jimmy is stuck in 4low how do i get it out pushing other buttons does'ent work

Try putting the vehicle in neutral at a full stop. Then push the buttons-it should shift to the selected gear. Then go back into reverse or drive.

GMC automatic transmission

I'm told and read a sun shell may be broke. Common problem for this vehicle. Shop will possibly rebuild and use aftermarket kit parts to correct problems the transmission had originally. Cost is probably between $1300 to 1600 to repair. Good luck I got the same problem on a 97 Jimmy and 3 shops said the same thing.
