Question about 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Power door locks and driver side power window not working. Keyless remote will not open doors although when pressed, the interior lights come on so I don't believe it is an issue with the fob battery. Other power windows work, just not the driver side. Remote mirror control on the door handle works. Any suggestions appreciated.

The solution to this issue was recently discovered during our most recent trip to the shop. We told them not to leave the window down when they changed the battery... BUT DID THEY LISTEN...NOOOO.

So quite by accident I was finally able to correct and then test fail the system and test and fix again...

Here you go.;
1. disconnect the battery and connect both the positive and negative cables together(after disconnected))
2. disconnect the window and lock controller in the driver's side door.
3. Leave cables connected for at least 5 minutes
4. Re-connect door window controller and locks wiring harness
5. Place the key in the ignition and turn to the run position
6. Connect Battery starting with the negative cable(ensuring not to connect then disconnect, (one swift motion)
7. open drivers side door and turn key to the off position(do not remove)
8. You should hear a series of dings
9 Once dings are heard remove the key from the ignition and you should hear the door lock solenoids activate..
10. Congrats.. Your done and the windows and locks work.

This is a curious fix (it worked), but is is phenomenological with regards to WHY it works. Does shorting the battery terminals discharge capacitor charge in the door lock relays on the circuit board of the door lock/window controller?

I was also having the same problem that has been reported by so many other people with the door locks and windows. I was determined to fix it myself and was researching the problem when I came across this discussion. I followed the detailed instructions and worked. The only thing I noticed after was my check engine light came on but that eventually went off. On a seperate problem I also was having issues with my heater only working on high. I checked the wiring connections and found that the wiring harness at the heater motor was loose. The heater motor is located beneath the glove box.

I used the 10 step "system reset" (or whatever it's called) successfully this weekend. Speakers were being replaced on a 2006 GMC Sierra Crew Cab truck. While working on the passenger door, I decided that the window made a good place to hang a light. Not a good idea. After moving the window, and unplugging the DDM & PDM to remove door panels. none of the windows, locks or mirrors would work. Using the 10 steps I have to add to item 6 - As much as we tried to do this in one motion we had several contact on and offs happen while hooking up the positive cable. It still worked. Lastly, after feeling good about the locks and mirrors working, the windows didn't start working till I started the truck. BIG SHOUT OUT - THANKS FOR THE TEN STEP "RESET". I'M UP AND RUNNING!

I was having problems with my drivers side window and locks not working on my 2005 Chevy Colorado. I found other solutions that were said to work and did not work. I was getting frustrated since I really do not have the money to replace parts. I tried this 10 step process and it worked, so THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS.

This is a common Colorado problem. GM bulletin # PIT3164B addresses it. If it is a intermittent trouble it is usually pinched or chaffed wires in the wiring harness in the door hinge area. If not, fuse #42 may be blown ( located in the underhood fuse box.)
They say closing both windows at the same time or operating window and lock switches at the same time blows the fuse.

Check the wire harness between the door and the truck body. I had a broken wire that was easy to repair on my 2003 Avalanche.

Same thing happened to my 04 Canyon four door after I disconnected the battery to replace the vent solenoid for the charcoal canister. There is a single relay that controls both the power locks and the driver's side window, located inside the driver's side window switch. It can get stuck open, either from the BCM sending it into safe mode or, in my case, I think, because of extreme cold. If the battery trick doesn't reset it, like happened to me, take the switch out, remove the control unit from the bezel by removing the four screws and gently take the black cap off by prying out the six plastic tabs. Take the PC board out. Be careful, because not every rocker has a complete compliment of white plastic drive pins for some reason, so if you take the rubber membrane out, take a photo of which ones have drive pins. They fall out and there are 14 holes but only 11 drive pins. The rear windows only have two, and each gets two, but there are four spots (8 total) for each front window and they only get five total. I cleaned up the contacts for good measure, but they looked fine. Then I heated up the relays with a heat gun (on low - not too much heat!) and tapped on them. I put it all back together and it all worked again.

SOURCE: Power door locks and driver side power window not

You can do it yourself.

Couple of times when you replace the remote battery, you might have them not working/ responding but just follow the procedure below.

Stand close to the car, hold down the open and close knobs for about 10 seconds. Press them at the same time for 3 seconds; then press the open button as the car opens.

The above procedure is applicable to a lot of car brands. It does not matter how many knobs you might have on the remote fob.

I have carried this procedure out on a lot of brands ranging from Honda, Toyota, Rover, Ford, etc. and it works perfectly well.

Good luck and Rate this.

Cheers

This is not a good thing. Ford uses a computer called the GEM and that means General Electronics Module. It controls:
  • Low Coolant Indicator On Cluster
  • Brake Indicator on Cluster
  • DRL - Control
  • Wipers
  • AutoLamps
  • Rear Defrost
  • Interior Lamps(dome)
  • High Beam Indicator only (cluster)
  • Low Coolant indicator
  • Key-in Buzzer
  • Seatbelt indicator only (Cluster)
  • Trunk Pop Relay
  • Power Locks
  • Door Ajar Sensors
  • Door Keyless entry pad
  • Remote Keyless Entry
  • One Touch Down (power window)
  • Air Bag Tone
  • Anti Theft (perimeter Alarm) (SEL, or SE(s) with mods)
  • Lift gate ajar (wagon)
  • Liftgate Pop
  • Accessory Delay signal (accessory that work after engine off, prior to door ajar)
  • Battery Saver Relay signal (accessory that work after engine off, 15 mins) Map lights, vanity mirrors

They are located behind the radio in the dash and they are $$$ about 600 USD.

Program remote

The horn chirp can be disable by pressing the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously until the hazard lights flash, and no enable press the lock and unlock until the horn chirp.
To reprogram (enter new ID) key fob (keyless remote controller) follow the steps.
1. Close all doors and lock all doors
2. Insert and remove the key from the ignition key cylinder more than six times within 10 seconds. (The hazard warning lamp will then flash.) NOTE: Key should be withdrawn from ignition key cylinder completely each time.
NOTE: Do not rush the insertion/removal key cycling process. The side marker/tail/license lamps and interior illumination will flash twice when this step is accurately completed.
3. Insert key on ignition key cylinder and turn ignition key switch to "AAC" position At this time, the new ID code is entered and original (previous) ID codes are erase.
4. Press any button on the new remote controller once. (The hazard warning lamp will then flash)
NOTE: Do not press the button more than one time in the above step. If the button is pressed more than one time, the programming procedure will not be successful. The side marker/tail/license lamps and interior illumination will flash twice when this step is accurately completed and programming is successful.
If there is only one remote controller skip step 5.
5. Additional ID code entry Release the door lock, then lock again with door lock/unlock switch (In power window main switch)
6. Remove key from ignition
7. Unlock driver side door, open driver side door and then close the door. (END)

Keyless Entry and Remote

I have had this problem take you drivers door put your key and un-lock from the out side with key (NO) then open the door push un-lock from the inside button and then set from you remote and it should set if not push un-lock then lock and then do the un-lock with the key. Let me know if that works. what my car did was locked from the inside and I had the problem were it would not work till I un-locked from the out side plus I had to go to radio shack and change the battery from the control.
Hope good happens.
