How do I go about getting a key for my 1999 Ford Contour. The only key that was given to me was lost. I s/w a Ford dealer and they said the car is too old to give a copy of the key. Thank you

You will need to get new keys cut for the locks and then coded to the car to get it to start and run

As cars age, the key lock gets worn. Insert the key, and simultaneously try to turn the key while rocking the wheel left to right. It should release the lock. Many times if there is back pressure from the wheels, it will make the lock difficult.
Set the brake and let the wheel relax before locking the ignition.

You go to a ford dealer and show them proof of ownership, they should be able to make one form the VIN# for you. good luck.

You need to find that key. It had a chip in it right? And that is why the dealer says he can't help you. If you have the owners manual, check to see if you have a key number in there. If not, you need a donor car, get the ignition, key and computer out of it. And this is no guarantee, but the computer has to read the chip or it won't start the car. There might be a sensor of some type in the steering column or in the dash board. I know that GM cars, when the key is broken, or demands a new key, the old key is glued up in the dashboard for the computer to read while a new key with no chip turns on the ignition. You don't need to buy anything but a key. Just take your VIN # and proof of ownership to a Ford dealer, and they can cut you a new key, as can a good locksmith.

also, you should have some metal tags or plastic card with the codes in your owner manual packet package. Dealer can cut keys with codes. But, if you have antitheft, you will need to program those keys before they will work.
