UP DATE: I'm still without a car! Since posting I have purchased another ECU & Still No Spark,No Fuel, she Just Cranks!! Have Again Jumped Fuel Pump With Direct Current From Battery, Pump Runs & At The Same Time Checked To See if Fuel Was getting To The Engine,& It Is.But Is Does NOT Prime (run) When Key Is Turned On Like it should? I Have Also Replaced The Ignition Switch, Still Nothing! I Have Also Checked Park/Neutral Safety Switch & Tried To Start it In Neutral, Nothing. Car Does Not Have A (ASD) Also Has A Standard Security System So it Cannot be That. Now I Am Now At A Total Loss As To What It Can Be. Only Thing I Can Think of Next is an Air Flow Sensor or An Oil Pressure Sensor. But That does not explain the fuel pump not priming? or No Spark? Does Anyone Have Anymore Bright Ideas? I Know, Call A Flatbed & Take It To A Mechanic! Very Funny, But Seriously, I Am Now More Determined than ever To Find Out What This Is! PLEASE Someone Help! The Car Was Running Great, Then Just Shut off while driving like someone turned the key off.And would not start until 10,15 min. later. After doing this 3,4 times it just died & never started again. Been sitting in my garage for a year now with me replacing every part I can think of to no avail! I have NEVER seen anything like this before in my life! I HATE COMPUTER DRIVEN CARS!!! One Thing is for sure, I will never buy another car made after 1995!!

I'm having the same exact issue. I get computer codes p0322, p0171, and p1500. They point towards with the crankshaft position sensor or distributor Hall sensor. I'm going to replace the CPS and see what happens today.

Hello! Here is a beastly repair that has got me overdone. 2000 S10 pickup 4.3 Vortec stalled out then wouldn’t crank or start. Replaced the starter, battery & alternator which produced a crank no start...

You'll need to verify spark at the ignition coil secondary (coil wire that goes to the ditributor). If you dont have a spark tester, remove plug from cylinder 1, disconnect coil wire from distributor and connect to the plug you removed and ground plug to engine steel, have someone crank engine and observe spark.

Before you remove spark plug, crank engine for a few seconds, then promptly remove plug. If its wet with fuel then at least you know injectors are working. If dry, then likely injectors are not activated by ECM. Go ahead and confirm spark and then figure out why no fuel from injectors.

No fuel and no spark

fuel pump , fuel pump relay on fire wall, fuel filter, may all need replaced, pump in tank, inspect all wiring in this circuit, especially all grounds,, grounds get overlooked & that is sometimes the problem. I have a 1988 gmc 2500, I 'm talking from experience. can you hear if fuel pump runs for 2 seconds, when you turn key on ? if not, ground problem or pump problem. relay has a fuse in it, check that. check all fuses. NOW, spark ! coil ? plug wires ? distributor cap & rotor ? replace them if you haven't !!!!!!!!!! get to work, see how you do ! good luck !

It turns but it wont start,it has gas and power

Pull off the coil ignition cable at the distributor and check for spark coming out of coil when cranking engine over. Use a heavy rag or glove to hold the wire 1/4 inch from a metal ground. Should see a strong blue spark when cranking to verify ignition is good. If no spark, check for battery voltage to coil on the coil primary. If you have current to the coil, suspect a bad coil, ignition module, crank position sensor, or cam position sensor, or pcm. The coil, ignition module, and sensors can be tested before replacing.

2000 dodge ram 1500 4x4 wont start. it will turn over but will not crank. we have replaced the coil and the crank sensor and it will still not work. Is also not the timing belt or the fuel pump. any ideas...

are you getting any spark from the coil and not to the plugs? if so replace the rotor button in the distributor cap, possibly has a hole burned in it. if no fire from the coil check to see if the coil is being triggered on the ground side and power to the coil on the positive. if no power check the ASD relay if no ground pulse then check the circuit from the computer. also may want to check the camshaft sensor in the distibutor.

1997 Mazda 626 2.0 DOHC New timing belt, dist., wires, plugs, crank sensor, air filter, cats, air intake sensor and sundry other little things. It dies suddenly on the freeway. It runs perfectly otherwise....

When the car stops driving, at that time check the starter, if its got very hot, then this can be starter over heating issue. There are many other things to be checked.

Try this troubleshooting: ----If your engine cranks normally but will not start because it has no spark, or it stalls and won't restart because it has no spark, the problem may be due to any of the following:

1) A bad pickup inside the distributor, a stripped distributor drive gear (common problem with plastic distributor drive gears), broken, loose or corroded wires from the pickup to the ignition module or PCM. 2) A bad crankshaft position (CKP) sensor or broken, loose or corroded wires from the sensor to the PCM. 3) A bad ignition module or A bad ignition coil .

4) A bad rotor or distributor cap (cracks or carbon tracks that are allowing the spark to short to ground). 5) Faulty ignition switch.

------------

You can also do a test to confirm the problem .The procedure to do the test is as follows: --

If your engine has spark plug wires, disconnect one of the plug wires from a spark plug and place the end of the wire near a metal surface on the engine. Then insert a small Phillips screwdriver into the end of the wire (the plug boot), or a small bolt or nail to provide a conductive path. Then crank the engine and look for a spark to jump from the screwdriver, bolt or nail in the end of the plug wire to the engine. If you do not see a spark, there is an ignition problem.

OR---If your engine has a coil-on-plug ignition system with no plug wires, In that case remove one of the coils from the spark plug and insert an old spark plug, a spark plug tester or a screwdriver into the end of the coil. Ground the spark plug or plug tester to the engine, then crank the engine and look for a spark. No spark indicates an ignition problem. Possibilities to be checked in this problem are as follows:-- If the engine has no spark, check for voltage at the coil positive terminal when the ignition key is on. If NO voltage, then problem is on the trigger side of the coil (pickup, crank sensor, ignition module or primary wiring circuit). But If there is NO voltage at the coil itself, then in that case the problem is on the supply side (the ignition switch or ignition wiring circuit). But if the coil has voltage, then problem may be a bad high voltage output wire from the coil to the distributor, hairline cracks in the coil output tower, or cracks or carbon tracks inside the distributor cap or on the rotor. ------A car that cranks over but doesn't start, in many cases will be due to a bad fuel pump, a broken timing belt, an inoperative cam sensor or crank sensor. Also these problems are related to faulty spark plug. Check the spark at spark plugs when you start the car. Do you notice any spark. Actually you should see. If in case there is no spark then it's a spark plug problem. Also the coil pack gives power to spark plug. So check the voltage at coil pack. It will show 12 volt. If there is no voltage noticed at coil pack then its faulty coil pack that has to be replaced. If all the possible options checked out ok then check the car starter. The starter gets power from battery to start the car. If the starter is faulty then it will not let the car to start. Also check and confirm that there is fuel in the car. If its very low fuel then in some cases this causes the problem. Also check and confirm that fuel pump is functioning properly and the fuel filter is not clogged. One of the easiest ways to check for a fuel pump related problem is to spray a little starting fluid into the air intake while trying to start the car. If the car starts momentarily, then there's a good chance the fuel pump is not working or the car is out of gas. You can also listen for the fuel pump's humming sound when the key is first turned on. Also if a inoperative fuel pump is suspected, a good technician will always check to verify there is power and ground being supplied to the pump, to eliminate the possibility of a bad relay or electrical issue. Fuel pressure can be checked with a pressure gauge and if there is pressure, pulse can be checked at the fuel injectors in several ways including the most common, with the use of noid lights. If the injectors don't have pulse the engine won't start.---------- This troubleshooting tips will help you to solve the problem. Thanks. Helpmech.

Wont start

is the your car engine cranking when you try to start, first check spark plugs ignition coils, remove one ignition coil and spark plug fix the spark plug in to the ignition coil then connect ignition coil to wiring and keep spark plug body touching on ground of engine head mettle parts, ask some one to crank engine then you can see is the plug sparking or not, do the same way to all the coils and plug otherwise you have to buy a ignition spark tester, is the all the coils and spark plugs are OK then check the fuel pump, it's sitting in under rear seat, before that do one thing disconnect oxygen (O2) sensor wiring and crank engine, the thing is if your oxygen sensor completely dead fuel pump will stop working, if engine start after disconnect O2 sensor, replace new O2 sensor, otherwise need to check fuel pump relay fuse and fuel pump. is this information helped you? please vote me and give a comment.

Audi 100s 1993 cranks doesn,t start, turns over no start. when it starts runs rough and stalls.

could very well be a faulty sensor, leaky vaccum hose, bad coil packs, needing of new fuel filter, spark plugs, wires.

Have you checked your fuel pressure to make sure it is good. You can do this with fuel pressure tester on the fuel rail.

Also check every cylinder for spark
If you don't have any spark, or very weak spark, you could have bad coil pack, module, or crank sensor.

You can remove one plug at a time, and place it back on plug wire, place it on top of engine block, have someone else turn motor over well you observe to see if there is spark.

Do you have a service or check engine light on? If so, I would have the engine codes read to pinpoint exact problem area.

Let me know if you have any questions or need further help

I have a 1991 740 volvo, was driving down he street and it died, after i pulled over it wouldn't start

Check if you still getting fuel and sparks, two items need to keep the car running. Check fuses and fuel pump relay, if needing new relays go to the junk yard and get couple of them for nothing. Checking making sure you getting fuel and fuel pump working properly, unplug the the main coil wire to distributor so the car wont start we just want the engine just to turn over. under the hood, locate fuel filter, disconnect the line to or from it, wrap the bottom of the hose with old clothe firmly and to remember to point the house downward away from your face so it wont splash at you. and have a friend turn ignition over just like starting, see if the fuel come out with good pressure. if fuses and relay check out, your crank sensor may be bad, being 91' strong possibility. crank sensor send info to computer telling to send fuel to your injectors. For sparks, make sure you plug the main wire to distributor back. pull one plug wire and get spare plug, plug it and ground the plug and have a friend turn the engine over and see if you getting sparks, do not touch the plug, big shock. No sparks, check the coil if you getting 12v, if yes, than your cam sensor is faulty. The cam sensor work just like the crank sensor but telling the computer to send sparks to the distributor. Common for older European cars, crank and cam sensor tend to become faulty after years of service due to age and heat abuse.

Galant Special Edition 1994 Motor does not start

this maybe caused by no fuel or faulty fuel pump, ignition coil, wire and plug crank position sensor. first check for spark by removing on spark plug wire and put a spark plug in the spark plug wire boot, donot touch the plug only the boot have someone crank the car over. if you see spark, that part of the ignition is good. if not, check the coil resistance if should 40 to 80 ohm with a volt meter pf not replace. if ok, but no spark check the igniton control madule make sure the coil and module are receiving current. if not check the fuse that feels them. if it is ok, check distributor cap and rotor. if rotor and cap are fine, check for fuel at either the fuel filter, the fuel return line or removing some spark plug and see if they are wet. if there is no fuel check the fuel pump and the fuse and relay that control the pump. if there is fuel with high pressure but there is no spark, check the crank sensor for signal with a volt meter while cranking the vehicle
