Has a bad oil leak coming from under the car . The only time it leaks is when the car is running, was told that it could be the oil pan gasket or the oil sending unit, what I wanted to know is where the sending unit on the car is because the oil is leaking from the front passenger side of the motor..

The oil pressure sending unit screws into the engine block so you will need to look between the oil pan and the head.I suggest that you try tightening your oil filter first.

The sending unit is usually near the oil filter. Have you changed the oil filter recently? If the old filter comes off without the gasket and a new filter is installed over it the two gaskets will leak. The pan gasket would likely leak even when it is not running. The sending unit can leak but usually more of a seep than "bad leak" unless it is damaged.

Before you do anything else, check to make sure your oil filter is tight.

SOURCE: notice on driveway tranmission fluid

u get a second look your self by looking at the transmission u dont have to take anything apart to find the leak the oil pan is easy so check that one first if u see any fluid on or around the pan then the seal is shot that dont mean the tranny will burn up, just keep an eye on the fluid level second the rear transmission seal is located at the back of the tranny where the rear drive shaft slips into the transmission if you notice fluid around there and on the drive shaft thats leaking also but like i said just because u have a few minor leaks dont mean the tranny will blow up just as long as you keep an eye on the fluid level. do your home work and find a good transmission shop that will gaureentee the there work at a decent price.

I just got value cover replaced the next day its coming from bottom

i assume you're talking about oil leak, right? and i really hate to assume, but this time i will. you may have a leaking oil pressure sending unit. if it's coming from under the engine, and the valve cover gasket has been replaced recently, if you have'nt hit anything with the car that may have caused damage to your engine,I would look for a bad oil sending unit leaking,or a leaking oil filter,or a leaking oil pan gasket. or a simple oil drain bolt loose. if this does'nt help you, please repost your question to fixya.com

I have a 2000 Ponitac Grand Am but the motor in the car is a 2002. I have had the car for a couple of days and now the oil is leaking rather bad, now I am no car expert but my husband and I were thinking...

u might check that the oil filter gasket did not slip when it was put on and have the oil running down over the pan . this car is not known to have oil leak problems.if i am thinking right it has a 3.4 liter and they are known (like there cousin the 3.1 )to leak anti-freeze from the intake gasket.

I was told there are two oil pans on Mazda Tribute 2001 (upper & lower) 4 cylinder manual. I have an oil leak do I replace both?

There are two gaskets, one is between the lower pan and the upper pan, and the second is between the upper pan and the engine. You only need to replace the gasket that leaks. If both are leaking, replace them both. To find out where the leaks are, raise the car, get underneath, and look closely all around the oil pans to see where the oil is coming from. Use a flashlight if necessary. You should be able to trace any leaking oil upward to its source.

The oil pan gaskets are not necessarily the only sources of oil leaks. Check to see if any oil is coming from behind the timing cover, and look for oil coming from the valve cover gasket.

Oil leaking is becoming more a more by the time, I was told to wait because it can be very expensive to fix it since the gearbox have to be desmounted first, is it so complicated? can be really expensive?

it depends where the leak is coming from........there are probably 10 places oil can leak from, some are not expensive to repair and others are. one common leak comes from the rear main seal and the engine and transmission have to be seperated from each other so that the seal can be replaced. that would cost a few hundred dollars or more. try to look under the car to see where the leak is coming from. sometimes you can't easily tell, but if it's from the oil pan or oil pan gasket, it's easy to see and not too expensive($50-$75 or so) to repair.............

How to diagnose an oil pan leak

If you have an automatic trans there should be a metal plate just after the rear seal of the motor. If you can remove the shield and see rust, good. If it has red oil, bad, its the trans. You will be able to see if the rear main of the engine is leaking by the oil on the torque converter and flywheel. You may just need to gently tighten the pan bolts which may loosen by themselves.

Leaking antifreeze from oil pan bolts

Its almost impossible to leak antifreeze from oil pan bolts. However if you have a bad head-gasket antifreeze can get into the oil and yeah with that back pressure in the oil pan it can leak. I would look at the water pump first, it is possible that the pump or the seal on the pump is leaking and it is running down the front of the engine and it looks like its coming from the oil pan. Check this vehicle care fully and make sure that it is coming from the oil pan. If it is really coming from the oil pan you would nee more than a gasket you would need a complete head job. Check and let me know, the status. Good Luck
