It could be the brake pedal switch, it often occurs it fails in our kitty. If your car (as mine) is equipped with a cruise control, this could be associated with the msg "cruise control not available" too (or something similar). In this case you can fix (or change) that switch. The worst is to dismount it... ;-)
cruise control connect with accelerator and engine throttle valve . try to make sure all button +/- is not press continuously press many time make sure not stuck . then off and On.
check fuses check battery and alternator to make sure check connections to battery reset the stuff see if it comes back may just be from battery being off your radio also dosent work or does it
if te check engine light is on the cruise wont work it just flashes if you erase check engine light and cruise still flashes hit cruise button twice it will go out but if engine kicks the check engine light it will flash again you have to fix what ever it is that kicks check engine light or you just deal with it
Thanks to all who wrote about the PVC hose. I am the original owner of a 2002 X-Type 3.0 with automatic. This weekend the engine light went on with a warning message that the cruise control is unavailable. The cruise worked and the only symptom I noticed was a slight lurching when slowing to a stop. I found these posts about the PVC hose and checked out mine to find there was a 4 inch **** in this hose. I bought a replacement from the dealer (Part No. C2540863 - £6) and noticed the new one has a waffle texture instead of smooth and feels stiffer. It also has clamps on each end which were missing on the original. This fixed the problem! It drives smoother and there is absolutely no lurching as I come to a stop.
The work involved is to take off the 3 screws and the oil filler cap which holds the plastic cover over the engine. Then remove the old hose by hand, reinstall the new hose with the 2 crimp style clamps. This hose is about 10 inches long and 1 inch in diameter going from the exhaust manifold to the engine, entering the engine right next to the rightmost screw anchor holding the plastic cover. Replace plastic cover and you are done (about 10 minutes). I recommend this as good preventive maintenance for anyone who still has the old smooth PVC hose.
yes it sounds like a vacuum leak possibly the line going to the brake booster try to start the car open the hood and listen for a hissing noise you may be able to inpoint where the leak is and fix it with a new piece of hose or a fitting
PCV hose. I had the same problem...Hear air escaping from mine..I just put some hose tape over mine, and when I got the cruise not available and check engine again, sure enough..tape was coming off...replace the hose..problem solved.
replace the 2 large rubber o-rings in the intake manifold - passenger side - behind the 2 large plastic valves with electrical connectors. probably 3 or 4" in diameter.
