2003 mustang v6 auto. Cranks but no start.

2003 mustang v6 auto. Started fine but shifter locked in park, no brake lights. Loose connector on brake switch, reconnected. Lights and shifter work now but won't start. Cranks but no go. Tried both keys. Disconnected battery for 1 hour hoping for a PATS reset, no luck. Still cranks but no start.

SOURCE: 95 F150 wont crank

the starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you. Good luck.

SOURCE: 1969 ford mustang mach 1 brake / stop light switch challenge

I installed a new turn signal switch in the steering column, and it fixed my brake light problem. Evidentally the turn signal and brake light wires use the same plug wires. It cost about $70. I would suggest doing this.

SOURCE: No Brake Lights, unable to switch from park to drive

It is not the multifunction switch. The power feed goes thru the brake switch before the multi function. You have no power the the brake switch because your shift interlock is not allowing you to shift it. I'll look up the wiring diagram and repost with a solution.

2003 Jeep Wrangler, the automatic shifter is locked and the key will not come out of the ignition. Any ideas?

sure, battery under hood charged,
head lights work> y/n ???????
fuses good.

shift locked in park you mean?
do the brake lights work,
this is called the park lock out. system. (simple)
it keeps car from moving when started in gear.

on this car the PCM logic controls this.
brake lights glowing
the PCM senses the park switch on the transmission
if in park (or neutral) the PCM then energizes the
lock solenoid on the shifter.
or the solenoid is jammed.
check those brakes first. and its fuse. if blown.

Shift lever blocked in position D ?

Could be the park neutral switch. It senses that foot is on the brake pedal so shifter can be moved.

Can't get shifter into park

sounds like the parking pawl in the transmission or the manual shift valve is sticking or the manual linkage in the trans is bent. youll have to have a technician drop the trans pan and observe these parts with an assistant shifting the lever in the car back and forth. If the PRNDL light for park is not lit, then the vehicle is not completely in park. You can start and vehicle with the lever in NEUTRAL to get you anywhere.

My 98 ford mustang is stuck in park

check fuses for brake shift solenoid. the brake pedal position switch is a fuse under the hood. inside the passenger compartment, check every fuse. that's a start for not having more information.

98 mustang can't get auto transmission out of park

probably the brake pedal switch (mounted on the brake pedal lever) starting to fail. it releases the shift lever and controls the brake lights coming on. you will need to replace this.

for now, turn the key in the ignition to the lock position (counter clockwise,) then to the off position (clock wise). In this position the brake shift interlock is disabled and you can move the shifter to neutral. these instructions are also in the owners manual in the driving section. the switch should be changed because eventually you won't have brake lights.

1992 toyota camry v6 auto. can't move shifter. car starts and ste

Car must be on and brake pedal depressed to shift. If you have no brake lights then the car doesn't know the pedal is depressed and will not shift out of park. This car has an interlock overide on the shifter console, push it and it will come out of Park. You will need a brake light switch tho.

1997 Ford Mustang won't go out of PARK!! HELP!!

The brake light switch at your pedal is defective, or more likely, the wire at the connector broke or came loose. If you need to move it in an emergency, turn off the car, place it in neutral, and start it. Mind you that you still will not have brake lights. The switch is an easy fix.
